    A City statement said: "He will undergo further examinations in the coming days to establish the extent of his layoff.

    "We wish Gabriel a speedy recovery and we will keep you updated on his progress via the Club’s official channels in the coming days."

    Scotland centre Mark Bennett will move from Glasgow Warriors to Edinburgh on a three-year deal this summer.

    Bennett joined Glasgow from Clermont Auvergne in 2012 and made his international debut two years later.

    The 24-year-old will follow Duncan Weir in moving east from the Warriors, the Scotland fly-half having joined Edinburgh last year.

    Meanwhile, Glasgow have announced that forwards Josh Strauss and Gordon Reid will also leave this summer.

    If your day job is riding a motorbike at speeds of up to 120mph in sand dunes, gravel tracks and riverbeds then falling off and suffering injuries are occupational hazards.  

    "It was a rough time and a long 45-minute wait for a helicopter to come and take me away when I was lying there with my leg bent in half. The desert is not where you want major surgery and it was heavy for the mind. You think to yourself 'what am I doing to myself?"  

    These are the outstanding words of the first British winner of the Dakar Rally, Sam Sunderland after he broke his leg in the middle of a Moroccan desert in 2015.
