Freddie Burns, who has made 60 appearances for the Leicester Tigers and has earned five England caps, says he has dreamt of playing for his hometown club since he started playing rugby as a boy.
The 26-year-old said, "I am looking forward to working under (Director of Rugby) Todd Blackadder and being part of a young and ambitious team. You can see they are building something really exciting in the way they are playing, and the clear bond and team spirit between the players is key to that. It will be great to be part of that.”
The Bath Managing Director, Tarquin McDonald says the club are "sorry to lose George" but the agreement with Leicester "suits all sides, with Bath securing not just appropriate compensation, but most importantly an excellent new player."
To be clear, these moves will happen at the end of the season, in time for the 2017-18 campaign.
Here's more from Aaron Mauger on the Leicester signing of George Ford...
"He has become one of the leading players in his position in Europe and is still a young man with a lot of rugby ahead him. We look forward to his return to Welford Road in the summer."While delighted to be able to bring in George, we are disappointed to lose Freddie who has been an outstanding player for us in the last three years. Freddie has bought totally into the Tigers ethos in his time here and he is a popular member of the squad with the players and supporters."Freddie has made a significant contribution on and off the field here and we look forward to him continuing to play a prominent role with us in the remainder of the season while wishing him well when he moves to Bath in the summer."
Ford has won 32 caps for England, most recently in the Six Nations win over Wales on Saturday.
A former member of the Leicester academy, the 23-year-old made 41 first-team appearances for the Tigers before joining Bath in 2013.
"We are absolutely delighted to be able to confirm the signing of George Ford, a player we obviously know well from his time here in the academy and as a young man making the breakthrough into senior rugby," said Tigers head coach Aaron Mauger.

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku will miss the club's training camp in Dubai this week to visit a doctor in Belgium for treatment on a minor calf problem.
The 23-year-old Belgium international's injury is "not serious" though.
Lukaku, who has scored 17 goals this season, is expected to be fit for Everton's next Premier League match on 25 February at home to Sunderland.
He is one goal away from equalling Duncan Ferguson's club record of 60 goals in the Premier League.
South East MEP Anneliese Dodds has asked the European Commission to investigate Formula 1 over concerns it is anti-competitive.
“A few weeks ago Manor Racing became the latest team in the South East of England to collapse after administrators failed to find a buyer,” she explained.
“Smaller teams are unfairly punished by an uncompetitive allocation of prize money that will always give the biggest teams more money, even if they finish last in every race.”
She has also questioned the sport’s UK tax arrangements and said there is a “significant conflict of interest” over the recent sale of the sport to Liberty Media.
MEPs will vote on whether to accept Dodds’ call later on Tuesday.
This is a lovely story...
Bournemouth praised Pep Guardiola for a "touch of class" after the Manchester City boss sought out Harry Arter after their match on Monday.

In cricket, Sussex have appointed former captain Michael Yardy as their batting coach.
The 36-year-old all-rounder retired from playing at the end of the 2015 season and coached Sussex's Under-17 side in 2016.
Yardy scored more than 15,000 runs for the club in all formats and will oversee all age groups in his new role.
He played 28 one-day internationals and 14 T20s for England between 2006 and 2011, and was part of the side which won the T20 World Cup in 2010.
Winks, 21, made his Premier League debut earlier this season and has now made 17 appearances for Spurs, mostly from the bench.
"I've been playing for Tottenham since I was six, but I feel like I'm gradually getting a more important role," he said.
And we start with this.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has signed a new contract, keeping him with the Premier League club until 2022.
Here he is in the obligatory 'arm-around-the-shoulder' picture with boss Mauricio Pochettino.
