West Brom manager Tony Pulis, on the sacking of Claudio Ranieri as Leicester boss: "You can't take your eye off the ball at this level. You have to be relentless, because it's such a difficult league. National League side Sutton United have signed former Chelsea trainee Adam Coombes from Welling United.

The 25-year-old striker has scored 20 goals in National League South games for the Wings this season.

He has netted a further seven times in three FA Cup games, including six goals in one game against Swindon Supermarine in the third qualifying round.

England batsman Nick Compton signs an extension to his Middlesex which will keep him at the county until the end of the 2018 season.

The 33-year-old took a  six-week break from the game  last summer after a disappointing Test series against Sri Lanka.

"Nick had a difficult season in 2016, but he remains a high-quality player," managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said.

"He is fit and still has an extremely strong desire to score runs, and to contribute to the success of Middlesex."

The right-hander scored just 51 runs in five innings against Sri Lanka, and has not added to his 16 Test caps since that series ended.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce, on the sacking of Claudio Ranieri as Leicester manager: "We understand as managers now that we are the whipping boys. I'm scratching my head, like everyone else is, asking myself how someone who delivered the finest achievement in football last year, could now be sacked. We're talking about Leicester here.

Away from Claudio Ranieri for a moment to some Premier League transfer news...

Burnley have signed young striker Harry Limb from ninth-tier side Wisbech Town, after the 17-year-old scored 22 goals for the United Counties League Premier Division side this season.

Limb also had a trial at Swansea City earlier this year, and although Burnley were not obliged to pay the Cambridgeshire side for the player as he was on non-contract terms, they have given a donation to the club and arranged for a "strong" XI to play Wisbech in a pre-season friendly.

"If I'm honest with you, I thought he'd be a bit-part player this season," said Wisbech boss Dick Creasey.

"He'd played very little men's football, but he grasped it straight away and the rest is history."

Southampton

Southampton manager Claude Puel has been speaking to the media ahead of his side's EFL Cup final with Manchester United on Sunday.

Puel acknowledges that he owes the club's young players for the club progressing earlier in the competition. But will they play at Wembley?

"We started this competition with young players, against Crystal Palace and Sunderland, and they did very well for us," Puel said.

"It's a great moment for the fans, and I hope that we can give them pleasure in this game.

"The last major trophy for the club was in 1976. It would be fantastic to take a good result."

Here's more from England manager Eddie Jones on the Claudio Ranieri sacking: "When we first got together one of the things we talked about was Leicester City and what they went through last season, what we could learn from it. 

"We put down a number of variables and we've tried to attend to them as we go along and last night was another chapter in it. 

"I must admit I felt a bit sick hearing the news because he's such a great, honourable guy and he's done a fantastic job. The papers want to blame the players for his demise, the papers always want to have a scapegoat, but the reality is when you're successful it's a combination of players and staff working together, and when you're unsuccessful it's a combination of players and staff too."
