  1. Mourinho on Ranieri: 'Typical selfishness of others'published at 14:06 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2017

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has suggested players might have contributed to Claudio Ranieri's downfall.

"I am not inside. I have no right to try to find scenarios. I think it is Claudio's fault. If he had finished 12th last season, it would be amazing achievement but they would still be thinking about relegation and he would still be in a job.

"He is paying for his success. Probably the season started with typical selfishness of others. People thinking about new contracts, leaving, more money. It is a bit of our world. Some principles are going away a little bit. I had a similar experience [at Chelsea], but it was peanuts compared to Claudio."

  2. Mourinho: 'It should be the Claudio Ranieri Stadium'published at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2017

EFL Cup final: Man Utd v Southampton (16:30 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been talking to the media in the build-up to Sunday's EFL Cup final against Southampton.

Aside from talking about the game itself, he has been explaining the Instagram post, external (see below although it will not be visible to BBC Sport app users) paying tribute to his friend Claudio Ranieri who was sacked by Leicester on Thursday.

Mourinho said: "My little homage to somebody that wrote the most beautiful history in Premier League.

"He deserves the Leicester stadium to be named 'Claudio Ranieri Stadium'.

"The most beautiful thing in the Premier League and one of most beautiful in football history.

"Now Leicester are in the highlights again with a decision that has everyone in football united.

"It's very difficult to accept. It's important to realise how football is and we need to react. I was sacked as a champion [by Chelsea], a giant negative as I thought - peanuts compared to Claudio.

"I don't think he needs more. Nobody can do what he did. If some of the stories have just a little bit of truth, it is difficult to find words to justify but we have to be able to cope."

"I'm not aware of any senior players going to the owners (to express their frustration at results).

The caretaker manager was asked if he thinks players have too much say in the running of clubs nowadays?

"Depends if you let them. Players certainly have a voice but ultimately its the manager who has the final say."

"It's a very sad day for this club. Football has gone this way a bit - you don't get much time nowadays.

"I cant tell the fans how to behave but we will need their support for the rest of the season, starting with Liverpool on Monday".

    Leicester City

Shakespeare recounts the moment he was asked to take up the managerial reins from the sacked Claudio Ranieri:

"Whether I think this is the right decision is irrelevant. We know results have not been good enough.

"There's a lot speculation with no foundation about my relationship with Claudio. It has been perfectly fine. I spoke to him on the phone he thanked me for the support. It was not brief and we exchanged views. A lot of what we said will stay private.

"I always feel sorry when people lose their jobs. I'm not aware of the club having spoken to any candidates.

"Do I think i can do job? Yes. Does it faze me ? No.

    Leicester City

"We have to respect the owners decision. We haven't been good enough this season.

"It was a strange feeling to go there and everything be fine. It was quite a surreal day."

Bournemouth travel to West Bromwich Albion tomorrow in the Premier League, with Arter set to feature for Eddie Howe's side.

"It will be tough [leaving her]," he said. "I said to Rachel about not wanting to leave her but I am not sure I can sneak her in my bag. It will be nice for them to spend some time together. Regardless of the result, I will have something to look forward to going back home to."
