    GB have been beaten to the bronze medal by Italy in the men's team pursuit.

    The quartet of Steven Burke, Kian Emadi, Mark Stewart, Oliver Wood went out hard and were up on the Italians in the early stages, but they could not hold off a strong Italian squad.

    Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino on Dele Alli's exclusion from the PFA main award shortlist:

    "There are better players now and it's a better standard. In my opinion he deserved a place in the shortlist. 

    "After his first season people wanted to him perform again in his second season. He's not only confirmed that he's improved in all aspects in his game.

    "He's clever and intelligent. He has the potential to improve and learn. Today he's shown he's one of the best players in the Premier League."

    GB's Joe Truman is out of the men's keirin after being outclassed in the semi-finals.

    Truman took the race on with two laps to go but ran out of steam and was overtaken by the rest of the field as he brought up the rear.

    More action to come though as GB go for bronze in the men's team pursuit and Chris Latham contests the men's scratch finals.

    Olympic bronze medallist Katy Marchant suffered a first-round elimination in the women's sprint on day two of the Track Cycling World Championships in Hong Kong.

    The 24-year-old Leeds rider claimed Olympic bronze behind gold medallist Kristina Vogel of Germany and fellow Briton Becky James. Britain did not enter the team sprint on Wednesday's opening day as Marchant was the only female sprinter to travel.

    Marchant said: "I'm really disappointed. I feel like I'm just missing a little bit of zing, which is something that coming off Rio is to be expected, I guess.

    "It's hard to comprehend, but that's bike racing. I didn't get the roar when I got the number on my back today - maybe the fact it's not an Olympic Games or something in the back of my mind telling me that I'm not feeling great."

    Fellow Briton Joe Truman advanced to the men's Keirin second round - a semi-final - but Lewis Oliva was eliminated.

    Tottenham full-back Danny Rose is progressing well with his rehabilitation following a knee injury and is expected to start outdoor work next week, according to the club.

    Midfielder Victor Wanyama trained with the squad this week and is available for selection after his back problem.

    The swelling of keeper Michel Vorm's knee is settling and continues to be assessed.

    Jurgen Klopp said France defender Mamadou Sakho, who is on loan at Crystal Palace, does not have a buy-out clause.

    And finally Klopp was asked about Sunday's opponents.

    He added: "The challenge of West Brom  is big and demands our concentration. We should be at our best because West Brom played an outstanding season

    "We know about their qualities and style. We want to show we have big targets this season."

    Jurgen Klopp was asked about club legend Steven Gerrard's work with the academy.

    When asked what his role next year will be, he said: "Yes he will be coach of the youth team next season pretty sure but we will tell you which team when we want to tell you."

    Track Cycling World Championships

    GB are out of the women's team pursuit.

    The British quartet needed to record one of the two fastest times to make the bronze-medal ride but both Italy and New Zealand went quicker.

    USA and Australia will contest the gold-medal, after Italy face New Zealand for bronze.

    Olympic gold medallist Joanna Rowsell-Shand:

    "Coming into the competition I don't think anyone expected them to medal. 

    "Until Elinor Barker joined the team today, we had four brand new riders. With an average age of 19, they've all got bright futures ahead of them."

    Jurgen Klopp began his news conference by discussing the events in Dortmund.

    The German managed Dortmund for seven years before moving to Liverpool.

    He said: "It was a really difficult moment for me because a lot of my friends are on the bus. 

    "I was really scared and concerned for them. I had contact with a few people but I didn't want to bother them with my silly questions

    "I can understand both sides (on when to play game). I think everyone would understand if they didn't play.

    "I was really proud of how Dortmund handled it. After game I saw faces of my former players and shock in their eyes.

    "It will take time to deal with it. If someone had offered the people on the bus whether to play the game I'm sure they wouldn't have."

    Jurgen Klopp was asked his thoughts on Sadio Mane missing out on a nomination for the PFA Player of the Year.

    The Senegal international has scored 13 Premier League goals this season.

    "He isn’t? who makes this nomination?", said the German.

    When told of the shortlist, he said: "They are all good players. A few players could have been nominated. It is a little surprise [about Mane's omission]."

    Jurgen Klopp has been speaking about England due Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson, who have both been out injured.

    "They are better but not good enough for the weekend. Adam will train the week after Crystal Palace," said Klopp.

    "Jordan? Maybe he'll train next week or the week after, Henderson feels nothing but we have to make steps."

    The Track World Championships from Hong Kong are now live on BBC Two and online.

    The first race of the afternoon sees GB's women take on Poland in the team pursuit.

    Great Britain qualified in fifth yesterday - meaning they need to record one of the two fastest times (outside of the seeded heats) to progress to a bronze-medal race later today.

    According to the Evening Standard,, external Alexis Sanchez has been offered a new deal £300,000 a week deal to make him the highest-paid player in Premier League history.

    Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris St-Germain have all been linked with the Chile winger, who has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award.
