Kyrgios retires hurt at Queen'spublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Tennis

All over. Australia's Nick Kyrgios has decided it is not worth aggravating that injury anymore.

The 22-year-old, who has struggled with hip and shoulder injuries this year, slipped awkwardly at 4-4 in the first set of his opening match at Queen's against Donald Young.

He was laid on court for a few minutes and had lengthy treatment on the sideline before returning to action.

But after missing two set points at 6-5, he has quit after losing the first set tie-break to the American.

Worrying times for the Aussie, who packs his bag and departs. Wimbledon starts in a fortnight...

Injury scare for Kyrgiospublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Tennis

Ouch! Nick Kyrgios looks to be in a spot of bother at Queen's.

The Australian has had plenty of injury concerns recently, notably hip and shoulder complaints ahead of the recent French Open, and has his right leg heavily strapped here.

Now he has tumbled awkwardly after slipping on the grass at Queen's.

    Queen's

The world number 20 lies out behind the baseline for a few minutes, clearly in serious pain, before climbing to his feet and hobbling over to the sideline where he receives some more treatment.

Eventually he returns to the court to a tremendous ovation. Hmmm, we're not sure how long he will last here. This is a huge injury scare for him ahead of Wimbledon.

Grigor Dimitrov just glides through the court, he has amazing power when he gets in position. Ryan Harrison was always being pushed back.

When Dimitrov plays like that you think he is getting there towards a Grand Slam. Maybe this could be the year.

He loves the grass surface, and he already has great rhythm. He could be a major threat here and at Wimbledon.

    Queen's

Well this escalated quickly. Grigor Dimitrov is already through to the second round at Queen's. In less than an hour!

At least the spectators, who no doubt wanted to see the tennis go on a little longer, can nip downstairs for a ice-cold drink and slap on some more sun-cream.

Sixth seed Dimitrov rattles through the second set in about 20 minutes as American opponent Ryan Harrison loses his temper - smashing his racquet on his trainers after one point - on his way to losing the match.

"I'm always positive throughout the year but especially when the grass court season comes I have a different set-up in my mind. I'm very happy with the performance," Dimitrov tells BBC Sport.

Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar triggered a mass brawl in the Chinese Super League as players and staff from his Shanghai SIPG side and opponents Guangzhou R&F fought on the pitch.

The club's £60m-signing appeared to twice strike the ball deliberately at Guangzhou players, and was consequently approached by opposition players.

Oscar fell to the ground following which the fracas ensued.

Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas defended Oscar, saying that he was "just being passionate".

Grigor Dimitrov looks in fine fettle. The Bulgarian world number 11 is already a set up against American opponent Ryan Harrison at Queen's after winning 6-3 in the opener.

Harrison is ranked 41st in the world but he is being seriously bothered by Dimitrov's accurate serving and nimble movement.

On this evidence (and yes it is only about half an hour's evidence) the man formerly known as 'Baby Fed' could be a good man to back to go all the way this week.

Necks are craned and tiptoes employed as spectators try to grab a glimpse of Andy Murray practising at Queen's Club. The five-time champion starts his title defence against Aljaz Bedene on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, an extra 3,000 or so spectators are sweltering here this year as the venue has undergone a big makeover, with Centre Court 30% bigger at almost 10,000 seats.

It's not the biggest of sites, wedged into a smart corner of west London, and we're feeling pretty cosy as the temperature nudges its way past 30C.
