Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been asked about striker Diego Costa's refusal to return to the club.

The Italian laughed for 30 seconds, before managing to compose himself.

    He is what he said...

So, Jose Mourinho did address the 'fourth signing' issue. He does not look like he is getting one.

He also is not getting carried away by Manchester United's 4-0 win over West Ham last Sunday.

"Last season we started with nine points from three matches - and finished sixth," he said.

    Says it all really.

  4. Repeat the West Ham performancepublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

Man Utd v Swansea (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on opening day victory over West Ham: "I am too stable and too experienced to lose my discipline and stability and think 4-0 makes us dream team. We are not. We have more confidence than last season. More time, more happiness, more relaxed in way we play.

"I am calm. When I look to last match, I like many things. The challenge is to repeat the same kind of performance. Good tactical discipline, clean sheet, good football, good dynamic in attack.

"The three subs came to the pitch and even for five minutes players like Jesse Lingard performed at the same level. In the stands, I have good players I did not even select. Last season we started three matches, nine points - and finished sixth."

  5. 'No buy, no sell'published at 13:34 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

Man Utd v Swansea (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United Jose Mourinho on when the transfer window should shut: "You have to adapt to the situation, it doesn't matter what. As a football manager, not a marketing man, as someone who want to work with the players, I would prefer the window to close as soon as possible.

"Everyone knows the players we have. The deals would have to be done earlier. At the moment you have a situation where a player could play game number one for one team, and for another in game number two. Are we in danger of losing players in last couple of weeks as I have heard? I would say how many clubs are powerful enough to buy best players in Premier League? The risk is minimal. If we cannot buy we are not going to sell."

  6. Jose happy with squadpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

Man Utd v Swansea (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United Jose Mourinho on signing a new wide player: "I don't think we are unless something happens to put us in the market again. My plans were four, but I also told Ed Woodward, 'no pressure from me, do what you think is best for the club'.

"We will be together for transfer windows in January and next summer. No pressure from me at all. I am happy with the squad we have. I am ready to go without the fourth player.

"My club did phenomenally well. I had four targets we got three before first match. My club did great work. Also nobody is in doubt (about their future)."

  7. 'Knockaert will get a good reception'published at 13:29 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

Leicester v Brighton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare on Brighton: "I think any team that comes up has that momentum.

"They had a difficult game against Man City but they have done ever so well over the last 18 months."

On former Leicester youth Anthony Knockaert he added: "Anthony was good for us and he will get a very warm reception here by the fans, staff and players.

"He’s very excitable and he does not change. I’m pleased he has gone on to do well."

Leicester v Brighton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare: "Robert Huth came through an Under-23s game on Monday.

"He played 60 minutes and has trained since. That's a big plus for us.

"Jamie Vardy has looked sharp in pre-season and against Arsenal. For Brighton we need a fit, healthy and dynamic Jamie Vardy."

  9. 'Drinkwater and Iborra out'published at 13:24 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

Leicester v Brighton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare: "Midfielders Danny Drinkwater and Vicente Iborra are not available.

"Danny trained with the squad this week and hopefully Vicente will train next week."

On 4-3 defeat by Arsenal on opening day: "It was difficult in one aspect because it was a defeat.

"We have our usual chat about what we have done well and what we can do better. That is natural for any team."

  10. 'We need to add'published at 13:22 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

Tottenham v Chelsea (Sun, 16:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino on potential £42m signing of Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez: "I never spaak about rumours. Not only the fans, we expect to sign plays until the end of the transfer window.

"It is our aim, to improve the squad and to bring new faces ane energy to the team. It will be a long season and we need to add."

  11. 'Happy with Trippier'published at 13:20 British Summer Time 18 August 2017

Tottenham v Chelsea (Sun, 16:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino: "Kyle Walker-Peters was brilliant against Newcastle, he was fantastic but he is still young.

"I try to translate my feelings that we are happy with the evolution of Kieran Trippier. It is my decision to see if he is ready to return or not from his ankle injury."

    Jose Mourinho

After bringing in three new players this summer, Jose Mourinho has less than two weeks to get the "fourth man" he has been targeting throughout the close season.

Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic seemed to be the one but Manchester United have struggled to agree a fee.

The name of Monaco's Thomas Lemar has been linked with Old Trafford in recent days too.

And while he is not associated with Barcelona in the same way as Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho will have been affected by the attack on Las Ramblas on Thursday.

Mourinho spent four years as an assistant to Sir Bobby Robson and then Louis van Gaal at the Nou Camp from 1996.

Diego Costa says Chelsea are demanding a fee Atletico Madrid "can't get near" for the Spain striker to complete his desired move back to his former club.

Costa, 28, remains in his native Brazil after being sent a text in June by boss Antonio Conte telling him he would not be part of the squad this year.

The Blues signed Costa from Atletico for a reported £32m in July 2014.

"When I came to Chelsea they paid a lot less compared to what's being offered to them," Costa told ESPN Brasil.

Man City v Everton (Mon, 20:00 BST)

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is bound to be fielding questions about West Brom captain Jonny Evans after the Blues have had two bids rejected for the central defender.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis has said that it gets more difficult when teams like City come sniffing and that every player is for sale at the right price. It will be interesting whether Guardiola opens up about wanting a new central defender or whether he will stay his usual guarded self.

City face Everton on Monday night, a team they have only beaten twice in the last six attempts in all competitions. After a solid start against Brighton last week, Guardiola will want to continue that form against their bogey side.

Catalonian Guardiola spent 18 years in Barcelona as a player and manager and I am certain he will have something to say about his home town after the attacks at Las Ramblas on Thursday.

Sunderland boss Simon Grayson said he is interested in signing West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass.

The 29-year-old Scotland international has been told he can leave the London club, either on a permanent basis or on loan.

Grayson said: "When people like him become available you would be foolish not to consider it.

"That would be a deal dictated by finances. Can we do it? Who knows, but we might ask the question."
