Gregor Townsend has learnt from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as he looks to build a Scottish team full of "work-rate, energy and speed".

Townsend is preparing for his first autumn campaign as Scotland head coach, having succeeded Vern Cotter in May.

And the former fly-half says he is inspired by the methods of ex-Barcelona manager Guardiola, who led the Spanish club to 14 trophies in four years.

"I believe people watch Guardiola's attack more than his defence," he told BBC Radio 5 live's Rugby Union Weekly podcast.

"But his teams at Barcelona had a rule to win back the ball. They started at seven seconds, and then it went down to three seconds."

Howe hesitant about changing teampublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 23 October 2017

    Bournemouth v Middlesbrough (Tuesday, 19:45)

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe spoke to the press earlier today, before his side's Carabao Cup match against Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

Howe told reporters: "We'll have hesitation about changing the team [from the victory over Stoke]. In the last round we rotated and we came through the game and played very well.

"We played some good stuff at Stoke at the weekend. In the second half we showed resilience and did very well to see the game out.

"From leading positions we've lost points before, but I've never doubted the character of the players. It was good to get the win."
