'Miley has the full package'published at 16:58 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

    Women's 400m individual medley final (17:00 BST)

    Rebecca Adlington
Double Olympic gold-medal winning swimmer on BBC TV

I just think if Hannah Miley puts her mind to it, of course she can be there in two years (at the Olympics). She has the talent and the work ethic. She has the full package to stay at the top stage. She has missed out on medals and that broke my heart because if anyone deserves it, it is her. You never know where life will take you but hopefully in this championships she will stand up.

The two Brits - Hannah Miley and Aimee Willmott - are the big favourites but 18-year-old Italian Ilaria Cusinato leads the world rankings this year and could well be poised to spoil the home party.

Serbia's Anja Crevar also qualified fasted.

'I need to stay calm'published at 16:54 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

    Women's 400m individual medley final (17:00 BST)

Aimee Willmott speaking to BBC after winning her heat and qualifying second fastest: "I've been working on it this season and tactically it seems a better way to get control (going out slowly).

"I can ignore the rest of the pool and just focus on me. I have the same mindset. I enjoy inspiring the next group of swimmers. I just need to keep calm and see how tonight goes."

'Willmott looked really strong'published at 16:52 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

    Women's 400m individual medley

    Rebecca Adlington
Double Olympic gold-medal winning swimmer on BBC TV

Aimee Willmott looked really strong. She always has a strong heat swim. She looked in control and smooth. You don't want to give too much because you want to save yourself for the final but she looked good.

Hannah Miley made it look a little harder but she was comfortable. I think Willmott looked a little bit more in control than Miley though!

Apparently my colleague Saj Chowdhury is a massive fan of the synchronised swimming. I'm trying to not picture him in a tight swimsuit though.

Anyway, there's a replay on BBC One now.

Miley out for revengepublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

    Women's 400m individual medley final (17:00 BST)

Home favourite Hannah Miley is out for revenge against team-mate Aimee Willmott, who pipped her to Commonwealth gold in this event in April.

Miley's first senior title came at the European Championships in 2010, and the Scot has gone on to win five medals in the competition, including a silver and a bronze in London 2016 in the 400m and 200m medley.

She was European Champion in this event in Budapest 2010 and qualified fifth fastest for tonight's final.

Cycling: Men's team sprint first round

Ryan Owens speaking to BBC: "I had a little sense out the corner of my eye that something was wrong, but you can't hesitate.

"It didn't quite go to plan today."

Great Britain's Emily Kay wins silver in the women's 10km scratch race

Emily Kay, with a massive smile on her face, is now collecting her silver medal - Britain's first of the European Championships.

But Kay mat be thinking what might have been as she finished just behind Kirsten Wild of the Netherlands, who took the gold in the women's 10km scratch race.

'Just one of those things' - Kennypublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

Cycling: Men's team sprint first round

Great Britain have just missed out on a chance to race for a medal in the men's team sprint...

    Jason Kenny tells BBC TV:

"He (Philip Hindes) had a little wheel slip and, typical luck, Phil then hits a foam bad, making a bad situation worse. But there was nothing any of us could do.

"You've just got to go full gas and hope for the best.

"It's just one of those things really, it's unfortunate, but it goes pear-shaped very quickly."

    'Peaty has a swagger'published at 16:42 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

    Men's 100m breaststroke semi-final (17:39 BST)

    Rebecca Adlington
Double Olympic gold-medal winning swimmer on BBC TV

Adam Peaty is still unbeaten on the 100m breaststroke. It was a real wow moment when he didn't win the 50m at the Commonwealth Games but it wasn't bad for him - he still came second! He just didn't seem as relaxed and comfortable. If he comes into this and I see him relaxed, I know it will be a good race. He has this swagger!

  12. Emily Kay wins GB's first medalpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

    Women's 10km scratch race

In case you've only just got home from work, here is how Emily Kay clinched Great Britain's first medal of the European Championships.

In a tight finish to the women's 10km scratch race, the 22-year old powered her way to a silver medal.

  13. Postpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

It's all about those gold medals. And there's 187 up for grabs at the European Championships.

Emily Kay just missed out but Hannah Miley and Aimee Willmott will battle it out in an attempt to win Britain's first gold medal in less than half an hour.

Golden boy Adam Peaty is also in action.

Should GB have asked to restart?published at 16:35 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

Cycling: Men's team pursuit first round

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

It was a very, very fast start, the fastest of the series, really, really quick. They couldn't stay with it.

That certainly wasn't strategic. There was a little bit of a slip, over a pad (from Hindes)! That makes a lot more sense. There was definite wheel slip.

I'm surprised the British team didn't go for a restart there. I suppose you've got to make those decisions very quickly.

  15. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

Cycling: Men's team sprint first round

Poland take the victory over Great Britain. The British trio consisted of Jason Kenny, Ryan Owens and Philip Hindes, who came in to replace Jack Carlin from earlier on.

But it is a poor start from Hindes, who slips, and slightly falls off track, going over a foam 'Glasgow' pad.

GB cannot recover from that bad start and Poland take it in a time of 43.926 with Britain's time being 44.063.

    Women's and men's team pursuit

The women's team pursuit sees four-time Olympic champion Laura Kenny looking for her first major gold medal since the birth of her first child, Albie, last summer.

Her husband Jason Kenny will be doing the same in the men's team sprint. The six-time Olympic gold medallist secretly retired after the 2016 Olympics - but reversed his decision before making it public.

Earlier on we saw the trio of Ryan Owens, Jack Carlin and Jason Kenny get through the qualifying phase third fastest in the men's team sprint event.

An hour's rest had, they will be out there again next up in the Chris Hoy Velodrome. They go in the second heat.

Coming up shortly...published at 16:26 British Summer Time 3 August 2018

Peaty, Willmott and Miley in action

Britain's next medal hopes are coming up at the Tollcross Swimming Centre. And we could have two Brits on the podium as Hannah Miley and Aimee Willmott go head-to-head in the women's 400m individual medley (17:00 BST).

Willmott pipped Miley to the Commonwealth gold medal just a few months ago and she qualified the fastest out of the two in the heats this morning.

We'll also get a second look at Olympic champion Adam Peaty. He smashed a championship record this morning to qualify for the men's 100m breaststroke semi-final and was joined by compatriot James Wilby.

There are more Brits in action too - Nick Pyle in the 50m backstroke semi-finals, Charlotte Atkinson and Alys Thomas in the 100m butterfly semi-finals and the women's 4x100m freestyle relay team in the final.
