Georgia Davies has got a great start and for her this will be extra special, because at the last two European Championships she's got medals.

But this time Fran Halsall isn't here to challenge her, so hopefully she'll come away with the European gold she's missing.

    Women’s 50m backstroke final

The finals are back (for the time being!) very shortly. Britain’s Georgia Davies set a European record in the heats yesterday and then followed that up with the fastest time of the semi-finals.

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist faces a tough battle for gold though, predominantly from former world and European champion Anastasiia Fesikova who won her semi-final in a time only three one hundredths slower than Davies’ effort.

    Swimming timing error for Peaty

    Mark Foster
Former freestyle world swimming champion on BBC TV

It is very random - in three decades of swimming I have never seen it.

It is weird that they suddenly realised halfway through the session that something was wrong, I don't know how that happens.

    Rebecca Adlington
Double Olympic gold-medal winning swimmer on BBC TV

I have never seen that at a major meet before.

You want to rely on technology, so as an athlete that would make me really nervous about the timing.

Maybe we need to go back to stopwatches!

    Swimming timing error for Peaty

While we're having a little break, let's reflect back on that breaking news a little earlier.

Adam Peaty’s world record time of 57.00 seconds in yesterday's 100m breaststroke final was incorrect due to a technical error with the timing equipment, and was in fact 57.10. Thankfully for him though, that is still a new world record.

Our pundits have been having their say.

    Men's 100m freestyle final

The last time Briton won a European medal in the men's 100m freestyle, Duncan Scott's dad was seven years old.

His son is now on the podium receiving his silver medal. Scott smiles for the cameras, then waves to the crowd acknowledging that home support.

James Wilby is through to the men's 200m breaststroke final alongside Ross Murdoch, but he had us worried for a second in his semi-final. He's not worried though.

He told BBC TV: "I'm quietly confident about that [making up time].

"It's been a tough day bouncing back from last night but I think I've done the job to put me in an alright place. I'm not too concerned."

Speaking after his race, Duncan Scott told BBC TV: "The 100m freestyle final is always so tight.

"I'm glad I've moved on each round - heat, semi and final - so I'm happy with that."

    Adrian Moorhouse

I think that Wilby will have to take a look at that.

I don't know if he needs to pace it differently or find more energy.

But Wilby needs to find another two seconds from somewhere.

Phew. Wilby touches the wall in third and that will see him through to the final.

Anton Chupkov of Russia wins that semi-final, 1.64 seconds ahead of Wilby.

Not sure quite what was going on there but that might be a swim the Briton needs a second look at.
