Clark wins women's 50m breaststroke silver

    Rebecca Adlington
Double Olympic gold-medal winning swimmer on BBC TV

Imogen Clark had a fantastic start, she didn't let Yuliya Efimova go and had a fantastic finish and managed to sneak the silver medal.

It was a little slower than last night but that doesn't matter - it's not about the time in a race, it's about getting the medal.

What has been great about these European Championships is we've seen the juniors coming through and it's just really good to see.

    Women's 50m breaststroke

Imogen Clark speaking to BBC Sport after winning silver: "Its absolutely mad, I can't believe it.

"Its slower than I wanted, but I'm buzzing, just so happy.

"I was lifted by Ben Proud's gold and it leaves you all tingly. I just wanted to go after I heard that roar for him."

On moving up to the 100m with 50m not an Olympic discipline: "I've got two years to nail the 100m and I'm focused on that now."

A last hurrah for Laszlo Cseh.

The 32-year-old Hungarian living legend has a mammoth 33 European titles and the fastest time into the final.

But this looks tighter than piano wire.

Russia's Aleksandr Sadovnikov, Poland's Konrad Czerniak, Hungary's Kristof Milak and fifth-fastest Briton James Guy will run it close.

Russia's Yuliya Efimova - who was banned for 16 months in 2013 after testing positive for anabolic steroids and jeered at Rio 2016 following a brief meldonium hoo-ha - can hardly be described as a fan favourite.

She was fastest into the final, but with Britain’s Imogen Clark the closest to her, expect a partisan atmosphere.

Right, time to turn this pool red, white and gold.

Ben Proud - fresh from 50m butterfly silver - topped the time sheets in the semi-finals, breaking the British record in the process.

Italy's Andrea Vergani was the closest to Proud time-wise in qualifying.

Something of Wales and Lions wing George North about Proud by the way for my money.
