A superb run from the 28-year-old who claimed world junior bronze 10 years ago.

it looked like Eilidh Doyle clipped a hurdle around the bend and came eighth.

Lee B: Great effort by Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Could have done no more in 800m. If she can nail the shot put there's no end to her potential.

Tom: Can't take anything away from Thiam though, European, World and Olympic Champion before her 24th birthday. Ridiculous.

You have to take one step at a time, we need to remember that. I think even from here, we can talk about what it takes to beat Thiam, but Katarina needs to stay focused on her own performance and try to improve in the areas that she can.

She needs to continue to come into these championships producing her best performances and the medals will fall wherever they will.

Katarina can take this into next year.

She had some real doubts about whether she really wanted to continue in the heptathlon.

It's tough and when I was coming into the sport, I had Karolina Kluft to beat.

It's hard but you can only focus on yourself.

Silver medal - Katarina Johnson-Thompsonpublished at 19:47 British Summer Time 10 August 2018

    Decathlon

Katarina Johnson-Thompson takes silver and a personal best total of 6759 points away from the competition.

After upping sticks to France and enduring a couple of confidence-shaking major championships at Rio 2016 and London 2017, she has some vindication and belief as well.

  17. 'What a year it's been for KJT'published at 19:47 British Summer Time 10 August 2018

    Heptathlon - 800m

    Steve Backley
Two-time world javelin silver medallist on BBC TV

She gave it her all and I really like the way she attacked every event and executed them.

Not just the events she's strong at, but the ones she's not sometimes as strong at, the shot put and the javelin.

What a year it's been for her, a gold at the Commonwealth Games and the World indoors and a silver medal here.

Kat will take away a massive confidence boost after this as she knows she can perform under pressure. She put in a world-class performance there.

But that's the mark of a champion as Thiam didn't quite look at her best but she still got the job done.

    Decathlon

Nafi Thiam had it under control I think.

The Belgian upped the pace in the final 100m to shut down a dangerous-looking gap.

That is a gold to add to her world and European crown. A remarkable athlete.
