Manchester University student and British champion Naomi Ogbeta earned her place in the final on her first major championship debut with a huge personal best of 14.15m in the qualifying round.

That moved her up to third in the UK all-time list, but is unlikely to be enough to propel her into the medal positions this evening.

Israel’s 2015 world silver medallist Hanna Minenko is set to duke it out with Amsterdam 2016 bronze medallist Paraskevi Papahristou of Greece.

Silver lining though! Team-mate Bianca Williams has nabbed a fastest loser spot!

Beth Dobbin speaking to BBC Sport after qualifying for the 200m final: "This time last year I wanted to be a British finalist so to be in a European final it's a dream come true.

"I ran to the wrong line and came off the bend thinking just stay relaxed. To get automatic qualification is amazing - I'm very happy with that."

Dobbin didn't feel intimidated by having Dafne Schippers flying past her on that bend.

Beth gets through with that automatic qualifying position.

    200m semi-finals

Dina Asher-Smith talking to BBC Sport after winning her semi-final: "It felt good, it felt smooth and easy.

"My coach told me to run the race in the first half properly.

"I was coming down the home straight watching the screen but I'm surprised I had that space.

"My body is fine but it is the emotional high (after her gold in the 100m) that's been the hardest to get over.

"I knew I had to come back out here, I've got a job to do. I didn't just have the 100m, I have the 200m and the relay so I'm only a third of the way there."

Two-time world champion Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands is seven-tenths of a second off her best form this season.

Will the sting of having her 100m title defence comprehensively spiked by Dina Asher-Smith earlier this week spur her to greater heights?

Also in this one is British champion Beth Dobbin. Her's is an inspiring story. She overcame a huge epileptic seizure that left her unable to recognise her own father and the restriction of a day job as a receptionist at Loughborough University to earn her place at these championships.

Read more about her in this feature by colleague Katie Falkingham.

    200m semi-finals

Dina Asher-Smith rolls up through the gears and comes away from the rest to win with plenty to spare. She had a little check up on the big screen to check for any surprises looming in the rear-view mirror. There were none coming.

Ivet Lalova-Collio of Bulgaria was second with Great Britain's Bianca Williams third in 22.83.

Will that be good enough for a fastest loser spot?

    200m semi-finals

In case there had been any doubt, Dina Asher-Smith confirmed her place among the best in the world over 100m when she took gold in 10.85 seconds on Tuesday.

Now it is time to start the second half of her sprint campaign. She won the 200m title two years ago in Amsterdam. Can she defend it?

This semi-final shouldn't really be too much of a problem for her with a season's best almost half a second better than the rest of the field.

Team-mate Bianca Williams has a decent shot of making the second automatic spot although Bulgaria's Ivet Lalova-Collio might have something to say about that.

"I'll sit with my coach and analyse it properly. I just need to be more confident and go for it. I didn't know what I had in my legs but it has been a great experience and I'll take a lot going forward."
