Dina Asher-Smith speaking to BBC Sport after securing 200m gold: "I think it was a mix of joy and shock. Things in my life don't usually go to plan, nothing had gone wrong so I was wondering what was going to go wrong and I got across the line, looked at the time and honestly can't believe it. I'm lost for words."

Last summer, Zoey Clark, Laviai Nielsen, Eilidh Doyle and Emily Diamond took silver for Great Britain behind a serene American quartet at the World Championships.

In Amsterdam 2016, Anyika Onuora and Seren Bundy-Davies joined Doyle and Diamond in Great Britain's European gold winning team.

The kaleidoscope has turned once more and it is Clark, Doyle, Onuora and Amy Allcock who line up for this final. Nielsen, having gutted herself for fourth in the individual final less than two hours ago, is out of contention.

Italy were the one team to qualify quicker, but Britain's favourite status probably remains.

Great Britain came third in last summer's World Championship with a quartet that comprised Matthew Hudson-Smith, Rabah Yousif, Dwayne Cowan and Martyn Rooney.

All four are back in harness tonight after 21-year-old Cameron Chalmers sat in for Hudson-Smith in the qualifying round.

The tactic paid off with Britain qualifying fastest and the rest helping Hudson-Smith to the individual 400m title.

France look the main threat, although a Belgium team defending their title from 2016 and packed with Borlee brothers - Jonathan, Kevin and Dylan all running - might get involved as well.
