Dina Asher-Smith is joined in the final by British champion Beth Dobbin, who has overcome post-traumatic stress over a severe epileptic seizure and the restrictions of her job as a receptionist to make her first senior championships.

You can read more about her story in this excellent feature.

Also on the startline is team-mate Bianca Williams, who came fourth in the 200m final at Zurich 2014.

Time for the double-barrelled sprint queen to double down?

Britain's Dina Asher-Smith blew the 100m field to smithereens on Tuesday. Can she defend her 200m and complete the sprint double tonight.

There has been nothing to suggest otherwise in qualifying. The 22-year-old was a quarter of a second better than anyone else and looked like she more in store if needs be.

World champion Dafne Schippers has the pedigree, but not the form. It could be her fellow Dutchwoman Jamile Samuel who poses more of a threat.

Lorraine Ugen - the world leader - is out of the long jump contention.

The Briton - who landed a huge 7.05m earlier this season - is under pressure before her third-round jump after Germany's Malika Mihambo jumps 6.75m to go top of the standings and push her down to ninth.

Only the top eight get another three jumps remember so Ugen needs an improvement on her 6.45m.

She no-jumps! By some distance! She plants her foot all over the plasticine and is out.

It was all about Adam Kszczot. The Pole was celebrating five metres short of the line as the rest stressed and strained some distance back.

Sweden's Andreas Kramer and France's Pierre Ambroise Bosse were in second and third respectively.

This could come down to a straight duel between French world champion Pierre Ambroise-Bosse - who opts for the long wind-up from way out to put the thumbscrews on the field - and Polish defending champion Adam Kszczot - who opts for the whippet kick in the final 70m.

    Different styles for different....needs.

No Britons in this one with Guy Learmonth, Daniel Rowden and Elliot Giles having been eliminated in the semi-finals.

Shara Proctor remains second with her 6.44m failing to improve on her 6.58m opener.

Lorraine Ugen (pictured) gets on the board and up to fifth with a 6.45m.

Jazmin Sawyers is in eighth thanks to her 6.40m opener after fluffing up her second attempt.

Only the top eight will be another three jumps after the first three attempts so there is not a lot of wiggle room for Sawyers.

No doubt about the queen bee in the throwing circle tonight.

Croatia’sSandra Perkovic has, deep breath, two Olympic, two World and four European golds to her name. She has also thrown six metres further than anyone else in Europe this year.

Britain’s Jade Lally is one of those scrapping for the left-overs in the great woman's wake. Only one of the other 12 competitors has a lesser season's best though, so she would need to punch big tonight.

    Women's 400m final

    Colin Jackson
Two-time world 110m hurdles champion on BBC TV

The three athletes that won gold, silver and bronze were all pre-qualified athletes, so they have had one less race than Laviai Nielsen.

That's something we've got to talk about going forward and whether or not it's fair.

'Fourth feels like a medal'published at 19:24 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

    400m final

Laviai Nielsen speaking to BBC Sport after finishing fourth: "I came into the championships ranked 16th and I've just come fourth so that's like a medal to me.

"I'm so proud of the way I've handled myself, it's been such an emotional and stressful week. I'm just so happy.

"I knew it was anyone's race, including mine, and so I went for it and at the end of the day it was just a bit too quick for me. I think I was the youngest in the field so I'll look forward to 2020. The 400m is such a tough event to master and I don't think I've got it yet."

The big news from earlier today was that Serbia's defending champion Ivana Spanovic has been forced to withdraw with a ruptured Achilles.

That has doubtless reinforced the medal hopes of Britain's long-jumping trio of Lorraine Ugen, Shara Proctor and Jazmin Sawyers.

However Germany’s Malaika Mihambo, who shares second spot in the world rankings with Spanovic this year, is present and correct.
