Tom Brady has just been asked if he will retire if he wins tonight. He is 39 after all.

    "HELL NO!"

    A definitive answer.

  3. QB comparisonpublished at 22:51 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2017

New England Patriots v Atlanta Falcons (23:30 GMT)

It's a team sport but perhaps the chief among team sports where one position hogs all of the headlines.

If you're a casual observer you'd be forgiven that it's all about the quarterback. And, to be honest, it quite often is.

We've got two of the very best on display in Houston tonight.

In the Patriots corner, Tom Brady. He's won four Super Bowls already, is friends with Donald Trump, married a supermodel and played himself on The Simpsons.

He's about as household as household names get. He's also, despite being banned for the first four games of the season, still very good at the age of 39.

In the Falcons corner, Matt Ryan.

Voted MVP [Most Valuable Player] for the regular season already he's in the form of his life and hasn't thrown an interception in two months.

But he isn't friends with POTUS. And he isn't married to Gisele.

The first Super Bowl I watched was Buffalo v Washington in 1992. I set it to record overnight but drastically underestimated the length of both the game and a standard VHS tape.

Got to about the third quarter and then out. I never did see the end...

Tonight's first few lines of debate:

    1. Who are you supporting tonight, and why? The more tenuous link to each team, the better

    2. What are your Super Bowl night traditions, if any. What are you eating, who are you with?

    3. What time are you staying up till and what time do you need to be at work?

With just under an hour until kick-off the teams are out warming up at the NRG Stadium in Houston.

The roof has been closed tonight because of potential stormy weather, so that one variable has been removed from the equation.

A shame that there's no chance of a Prince-style performance tonight. In many ways.

    The greatest show on turf.

    Or so they say.

A seventh Super Bowl in 15 years v a second appearance ever.

    A dynasty v a devastating attack.

    Best defence v best attack.

The team [most of] America loves to hate v the team [most of] America wants to see win.

Deflate-gate v no controversy at all.
