It's been another wonderful evening of NFL action with unbeaten streaks ended, records equalled and broken - and some thrilling fourth-quarter and overtime wins.

Just one small matter left: that of Tom Brady's return to Foxborough as he leads the defending Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay into action against the New England Patriots - the franchise he steered to six world titles.

The Buccaneers will bid to bounce back from last weekend's defeat by the Los Angeles Rams but Patriots coach Bill Belichick will be desperate to get one over his former quarterback.

We'll have a report for you live on the BBC NFL page for when you wake up - until then, goodnight and thanks for reading.

  2. Game of the Day - Cards deal Rams first losspublished at 01:08 British Summer Time 4 October 2021

Arizona Cardinals 37-20 Los Angeles Rams

It was the battle of the two 3-0 teams in the NFC West, and the question of who is the better team was answered pretty emphatically by the Arizona Cardinals in a statement win in LA.

Running back James Conner scored twice while Kyler Murray sparkled with 268 yards passing, two TDs and another 39 yards rushing.

Chase Edmonds had 120 yards on the ground as Arizona produced an all-round performance that a few thought wasn't possible as they put up 37 points on one of the league's top defences.

They also restricted Matthew Stafford to just 20 points to become the first 4-0 team and possibly the only one, with the Las Vegas Raiders yet to protect their own unbeaten record, playing on Monday Night Football this week.

Arizona may not be dark horses any more.

  3. Play of the day - Carter goes coast-to-coastpublished at 01:07 British Summer Time 4 October 2021

Washington Football Team 34-30 Atlanta Falcons

We all love a full-length touchdown run, and this week it was Washington’s DeAndre Carter who went coast-to-coast against the Falcons with a wonderful 101-yard kick-off return TD.

As usual it starts with a decent catch, then a burst of pace through the first wave of tacklers, a drop of the shoulder and away he goes – to the house!

It was also a huge game for Cordarrelle Patterson, a somewhat journeyman receiver/return who has bounced around a few teams but had a massive impact on this game.

He's turned into a dual threat maestro in Atlanta and caght three TD passes today while also taking six carries for 34 yards to lead the team in rushing.

There was plenty of pressure on the Kansas City Chiefs at the Philadelphia Eagles, but they responded as champions do - with a statement of intent.

Their defence still leaves a lot to be desired, and we mean A LOT, but they're devastating in attack with Patrick Mahomes throwing five touchdowns – three of them to Tyreek Hill who ran Philly ragged.

The speedy receiver has been quiet in recent weeks but the Eagles gave him an inch and he took a mile, well, 186 yards to be exact and those three TDs.

Mahomes was pulling out all the party tricks including his patented underarm passes, including a TD to Clyde Edwards-Helaire that just defied belief.

These Chiefs, who also had 200 yards of rushing today, have work to do but with Mahomes and Hill they have two of the most dynamic playmakers in the league.

  5. Rodgers ties Dan Marinopublished at 01:05 British Summer Time 4 October 2021

Pittsburgh Steelers 17-27 Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers enjoyed his Super Bowl renunion with Ben Roethlisberger, and the result was the same as a decade ago as the Packers ran out winners.

Big Ben threw his 400th touchdown pass in the game, but Rodgers threw two to take his tally to 420 and tie Dan Marino in sixth place on the all-time list.

  6. New York, New York - Jets & Giants both win in overtimepublished at 00:59 British Summer Time 4 October 2021

A nice little slice of history as both the New York Giants and New York Jets both won in overtime on the same day for the first time ever.

Let's face it, with the form of these two teams over the last few years, the odds of them both just winning on the same day are pretty high, but they both finally got their first wins of the season in dramatic fashion - and against decent sides too.

A fine win against a divisional rival is one thing, but it's also a landmark victory for Russell Wilson that puts him in elite company with only Peyton Manning able to match his achievements.

And Wilson was at his playmaking best in the victory, diving in for a touchdown himself and performing some trademark escape acts in the backfield before firing another TD.

It was a special performance for a special occasion.

  8. Broncos beaten as Ravens tie rushing recordpublished at 00:57 British Summer Time 4 October 2021

    Baltimore Ravens 23-7 Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos saw their unbeaten start ended and it wasn't really that close as the Baltimore Ravens powered on to 3-1 for the season and tied a long-standing NFL record at Mile High.

The game was already won when Ravens head coach John Harbaugh called for his team to actually run a play in the last second of the game as they were a few yards short of hitting 100 for the 43rd straight game.

That's great awareness for that record and Lamar Jackson duly got the ground needed to put that extra gloss on a fine victory.

  9. Bills win big againpublished at 00:52 British Summer Time 4 October 2021

    Houston Texans 0-40 Buffalo Bills

    Buffalo BillsImage source, Getty Images

The Buffalo Bills are officially rolling, after their second shutout of the season saw them force five turnovers as they gave rookie Houston QB Davis Mills a torrid time in upstate New York.

Bills QB Josh Allen is looking a lot more like the MVP candidate of last year, with 248 yards and two touchdowns and another 41 yards on the ground, but it's the all-round game from the team that will worry their opponents.

They've now shutout the Dolphins and Texans in recent weeks, winning their last three games with an aggregate score of 118-21. Watch out for these Bills.

  10. Round-up: Panthers first loss, Fields' first Bears winpublished at 00:52 British Summer Time 4 October 2021

The Carolina Panthers were handed their first loss of the season by a confident Dallas Cowboys, who dismantled the league's best defence in a 36-28 victory in Texas.

Dak Prescott threw four TD passes while Ezekiel Elliott had a monster game with 143 yards rushing and a touchdown - with the Panthers having no answer to the punishing ground game from the Cowboys.

Panthers QB Sam Darnold threw two TDs and also ran in another two to take his tally to a league-leading five in a startling start for him this season, but it was not enough for a win this time.

The Chicago Bears beat the Detroit Lions 24-14 in a notable first win for their rookie QB Justin Fields, who was solid enough without having to do too much - with the Bears' run game doing all the damage.

It's a disappointing 1-3 start for the Minnesota Vikings who couldn't get anything going against a stout Cleveland Browns defence, as the visitors ground out a 14-7 arm wrestle.

The Indianapolis Colts got their first win of the season at the Miami Dolphins, with the home side providing some help themselves in a comfortable 27-10 success for Indy.

  12. Postpublished at 00:32 British Summer Time 4 October 2021

Pittsburgh Steelers 17-27 Green Bay Packers

Speaking of the Steelers, they have slipped to 1-3, with Ben Roethlisberger throwing a late desperation interception.

Another great win for Green Bay, who have put the 'will he, won't he' Aaron Rodgers summer saga firmly behind them now.

  13. Postpublished at 00:30 British Summer Time 4 October 2021

A little side note there at the end - Ravens did not go to victory formation with only three seconds left because they wanted to equal an NFL record.

Baltimore had gone 42 straight games rushing 100 yards or more - but had only rushed 97 tonight.

So Lamar Jackson goes and gets five rushing yards on the last play of the game to push them over that mark and equal the Pittsburgh Steelers' run of 43 consecutive 100-yard-plus rushing games from 1974-77.
