Since 1976, the last player selected in the NFL draft has been known as 'Mr Irrelevant'. This season that 'honour' was bestowed upon former Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy.

The 262nd draft pick has embraced his new nickname and if celebrating being 'irrelevant' isn't bizarre enough, wait till you hear about 'Irrelevant Week'.

It's a host of events held to "celebrate football's underdog", with the latest 'Mr Irrelevant' being feted all week. Click here to see what Brock Purdy's week looked like.

There may have been concerns over whether he could make the transition to the NFL but he sure seems to be doing alright so far. Can he go on to become the first ever rookie quarterback to play in a Super Bowl?

  5. Cowboys aim for first NFC Championship Game in 27 yearspublished at 23:21 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2023

The Dallas Cowboys also suffered an early-season quarterback blow, with Dak Prescott sidelined with a thumb injury, only for back-up Cooper Rush to lead the Cowboys to four straight wins.

The five-time Super Bowl winners brought Prescott back in week seven and a dominant defence helped Dallas finish the season with a 12-5 record, with Prescott throwing a joint-league high of 15 interceptions - some achievement given he missed five games of the regular season.

Team owner Jerry Jones is eager to reach another Super Bowl having spearheaded their three title victories in the 90s, and there have been doubts over Prescott and coach Mike McCarthy are the men to get them back to the big game.

Prescott is now 29 and came into the post-season with just one play-off win in his career, but he earned his second with a superb display last week to beat Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Getting 'America's Team' to their first NFC Championship Game since the 1995 season would silence a few more of those doubters.

  6. 49ers keep rolling despite playing third-choice quarterbackpublished at 23:21 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2023

Seems a long time ago now but the San Francisco 49ers started the season with Trey Lance as their starting quarterback. Who would've thought that, four months later, it would be third-choice quarterback Brock Purdy leading their play-off charge?!

Lance was injured in week two, before veteran Jimmy Garoppolo went down in week 13, leaving Purdy as the next in line. And boy has the man picked last in this season's draft made the most of his opportunity.

Purdy has won his first six starts, throwing 14 touchdown passes in the process, to help the 49ers win the NFC West with a 13-4 record. They have arguably the best defence and the best offence in the NFL and, after brushing off a slow start to beat the Seattle Seahawks last week, they come into the divisional round on the back of an 11-game winning streak.

Now the five-time Super Bowl winners face their old rivals from the 90s in a rematch of last year's wildcard game. Momentum is definitely on San Fran's side.

  7. Who will go to Philly?published at 23:19 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2023

Dallas Cowboys @ San Francisco 49ers (23:30 GMT)

The Eagles will host the NFC Championship game next week, and whoever wins tonight is in for a huge battle there - Philly look like they mean business.

    Cincinnati Bengals 27-10 Buffalo Bills

    Greg Brady
NFL pundit on BBC Radio 5 Live

“This season has ended in heartbreak for the Bills. This was perhaps the most unexpected [failure]. They had heartbreak, emotion, ups and downs.

"This team feels so close. I know they feel like they are hitting their heads against the wall, but they were 14-3 this season. I don’t know how you blow this team up.”

  16. 'Bengals are a juggernaut'published at 23:05 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2023

    Cincinnati Bengals 27-10 Buffalo Bills

Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo on commentary: “Today has convinced me that Cincinnati is a juggernaut. If they beat Kansas next week, again, on the road, they’ve got to be the favourites for the Super Bowl.

“They can beat anybody, any day. They are not the underdogs any more.”

  17. Full-time - Bengals advance in dominant winpublished at 23:04 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2023

From minute one, the Cincinnati Bengals were in control of this game. Driving down the field on their opening drive and scoring with ease on a Ja'Marr Chase catch and run.

While the Bengals offence was motoring their defence was shutting down a usually explosive Buffalo Bills offence. Restricting the hosts to just over 300 yards of total offence and one touchdown on a quarterback sneak.

Joe Burrow and company will head to the AFC Championship game for a rematch of last year's contest with the Kansas City Chiefs.

    Cincinnati Bengals 27-10 Buffalo Bills

There will be no consolation score for the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen looks deep down the right sideline for Cole Beasley, the ball is underthrown and picked off by the rookie Cam Taylor-Britt.

And here comes the snow angels from the Bengals defence in celebration.

Joe Burrow can kneel this one out.

  19. Bengals puntpublished at 22:57 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2023

    Cincinnati Bengals 27-10 Buffalo Bills

Buffalo are finally able to stop the Cincinnati run but with just under three minutes to go and three scores needed it may be too little too late.

The Bills will start the drive inside their own 20 needing nothing short of a miracle.

  20. 30th Bengals first downpublished at 22:53 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2023

    Cincinnati Bengals 27-10 Buffalo Bills

The Bengals have their 30th first down of the game. Even when it looks the Bills have stopped the run, Cincinnati still find a way.

Joe Mixon looks like he is going to be stopped short on third-and-two. But he somehow sneaks through the pack of bodies and moves the chains.
