"Christine has a great inner self-belief and I just admire her so much with the way she is able to focus, visualise and get herself into that race-mode. She has been here before. Who would bet against her?"

  3. Ohuruogu in 400m finalpublished at 13:37

How can we top that grand finale? By turning our attention to the lady who knows all about dramatic endings. Christine Ohuruogu is not the favourite for the women's 400m final - America's Allyson Felix is - but the Briton never starts as the woman to beat.

That was a remarkable jump. Nothing we have seen in this competition had indicated they would jump that far but that was phenomenal from Taylor.

It's agonisingly close to a medal but coming fourth is really good. I had a rough year last year and I am super happy with it.

The last British athlete out of the three you'd expect to be in the final was Oskan-Clarke, but if it becomes a technical, tactical race she could snatch a medal.

One more 800m semi-final to go and rice paper separates the top three finishers in a pacy race. Lynsey Sharp was in a good position after 400m, but the Briton ends up eighth in 1:59.33.

Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan, the European champion, was fifth and misses out on the final.

    Women's 800m semi-finals

    Quote Message

These semi-finals are really, really tough. I knew I was up against it but when you are standing on the startline you hope. I was looking for 1.59, that would've been a consolation, but I didn't do myself justice. I felt lacklustre and lethargic but had no reason to feel like that. I've had a number of years injured and being ill and it feels quite alien competing against the people you've been watching for so long. I give myself a two or three out of 10. It's a season best, but not what I was looking for."

I was fighting all the way trying to get myself into the right position. I felt strong and said to myself 'come on, push, push, push'. I knew I could run under two minutes. I'm so happy and my coach has been saying I could do it for ages. To be in a final sounds amazing. I just want to take each race as it comes and I knew the fitness was there.
