Sarah (Taylor) Tuck: Jo Pavey always will be a hero of mine... That woman is superwoman to me. Motherhood don't stop that lady.

GillyB: Watching The London Marathon on TV, I'm blubbing before it even starts! 😢 Some really inspirational stories . Good luck all.

Amy Bendall: Love the London Marathon - very sad to see it's Brendan Foster's last race. Such an iconic voice and great athletic insight.

Fancy a cake before the race? Sophie and Stella are on hand if any runners are feeling a bit peckish. They're raising money for British Dyslexia.

It is very important to load up before a marathon, of course...

    Men's wheelchair race

    Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson
    11-time Paralympic champion

The six mile mark at the Cutty Sark is the real challenging point. There are speed bumps, the road surface isn't great - there are pot holes so you lose a lot of speed there.

  11. Weir third in wheelchair racepublished at 09:24 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

Meanwhile in the wheelchair race, the athletes have reached the imposing figure of the Cutty Sark.

Japan's Hiroyuki Yamamoto is still leading, closely followed by Marcel Hug, with David Weir in a close third place.

They stream from Blackheath Station, seemingly an endless chain of people nattering, fuelling, undoubtedly worrying.

At the Blue Start the atmosphere is pretty unique. The air tingles with excitement but a nervous energy crackles through too.

I spoke with a gent from Yorkshire on the way here. His personal challenge today is to beat a lady from his local club. No easy feat though as he explained she won the world title for carrying coal on your back over a mile on Monday. I hope she's put the sack down for today.

Allow us to be indulgent for a moment...

Our wonderful colleague Luke Reddy, who you may recognise from coverage of boxing, the Olympics and golf here on the BBC Sport website is running his fifth marathon today - his third in London.

He is somewhere at the start line and - typical Reddy - he is doing work.

Brendan's marathon momentspublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    #GetInspired

For those watching on TV, Brendan Foster's voice has become as much part of the London Marathon as runners streaming past Cutty Sark or over Tower Bridge.

It's hard to imagine it without him, but this will be the final year behind the mic for one of the greats of British distance running.

Brendan, now 69, won European gold at 5,000m in 1974, Olympic bronze at 10,000m in 1976 and Commonwealth gold at 10,000m in 1978 - here he reflects on his all-time highlights of the race before a well-earned retirement after August's Athletics World Championships in London...

But what are your highlights from down the years? Tweet us your recollections of London Marathon magic, tagged #GetInspired, and we'll share them in our live text.

  16. Keitany tops women's fieldpublished at 09:17 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Women's elite race

Mary Keitany is one of four women in the line-up who have broken the two hour 20 minute mark, and she's the quickest on paper, too.

She triumphed in London in 2011 and 2012, finishing the latter race in two hours 18 minutes 37 seconds - the second fastest time by a female runner at the event.

Two years later she broke Paula Marathon's record at the Great North Run.

She completed a hat-trick of New York Marathon titles in November, becoming the first woman to do so in 30 years.

A steady drum beat, helped along by the crowd with their clappers, before Helen Glover and Heather Stanning press down the button. That wait must be agonising!

It's a strong field for Pavey to contend with today, even with the absence of 2016 champion Jemima Sumgong.

  18. 'Granny' competes in second London Marathonpublished at 09:13 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Women's elite race

That's the affectionate - honestly - nickname given to Jo Pavey by her younger GB team-mates as the 43-year-old continues to astound.

The remarkable Pavey has been competing since she was 15 and she became the first British track athlete to compete at five Olympic Games when she appeared at Rio 2016.

She won a major international title - gold at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich - just 11 months after giving birth to her daughter.

Pavey is returning to World Marathon Majors after an six-year absence, following a 16th placed finish in London and ninth in New York in 2011.
