A little heads-up as the men's shot put final gets under way: Olympic champion Ryan Crouser once won a novelty cake-throwing contest, three years before winning that gold medal. His winning distance was 14m - but the pastry in question was one metre wide, one metre long and 50cm deep. And no, the 19 1/2 stone man did not eat it afterwards.

How he knows they are still going to be by the time Bradshaw has picked up her pole and run 20m down the runway is another matter,

Anyway, Bradshaw baulks, dropping to the mat without bothering the bar.

She has only one more attempt at a height she has bettered by 6cm this year.

World 100m silver medallist Christian Coleman on BBC Radio 5 live: "The atmosphere was crazy last night and to get a medal was the icing on the cake.

"It was a crazy feeling to be on the start line but my coach told me what to expect with it being Usain Bolt's last race. I tried to drown it out and focus on my race. It was a historic moment and I was glad to be a part of it.

"Justin being booed hurts my heart because he is a friend of mine, he's a great guy, a great competitor and a great person. I was disappointed. When people hate you like that the only thing you can do is win, and that's what he did.

"It would have been easy to have been intimidated by Usain Bolt but I felt I belonged at this level and was there to win a medal. Usain is such an icon, I have such respect for him."
