"Great performance by James DeGale, who utterly dominated Brandon Gonzales for four rounds. Not much eminent trainer Virgil Hunter could do to help."

  2. Undercard - James DeGale reactionpublished at 21:17 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

James DeGale on BBC Radio 5 live: "I've been living like a hermit the last couple of weeks while I've been training but I've won and I'm the mandatory challenger now. I don't care who wins, I'm going to go with Groves but I don't care if he gets knocked out.

"My power has always been there but I have been injured. I am injury free now and I am ready for whoever."

    Richie Woodhall
Former super-middleweight world champion on BBC Radio 5 live

"It's a 50-50 fight. George Groves fought so well in that first fight, he was probably ahead going into the eighth round but Carl Froch came back into it. I was ringside and I know for sure Groves was in trouble. I think it was premature but he was definitely in trouble."

Imagine if you got on the bathroom scales one Friday afternoon, looked down to the floor, looked up again and there were 5,000 people stood watching you. And all while you were in your underpants.

That frightening thought is enough to keep you away from a Saturday night takeaway, isn't it? But, then again, we are not finely-tuned fighting machines in the best shape of our lives, are we? At least I'm not.

Carl Froch and George Groves didn't seem to mind the thousands of people who were lined up to see them weigh-in for tonight's fight yesterday. A little bit of Las Vegas had arrived in London.

Former world heavyweight champion David Haye: "I can see George out-boxing Carl. George is a very, very good boxer. I've done a lot of rounds with him and he's difficult to catch. When he decides to box, he's very, very difficult. He's hard to hit clean. He's slippery, and he's got fast hands."

Former world light-heavyweight champion Glen Johnson, who has fought both Carl Froch and George Groves: "Which of the two did I find trickier? Froch. He tries to beat you to the punch and throws until he lands. Groves delivers more but Froch has better punches with a little more intelligence. If I had to pick a winner I would pick Froch, because he's more seasoned, stronger, been there already and knows what to do. He also has the stronger, cleaner shot selection."

James DeGale, who is now in line for a shot at the winner of Froch v Groves, speaking to Sky Sports Box Office: "It's exactly what I wanted to do - put on a performance. The atmosphere was brilliant. I was hitting him with some good, clean shots and he was hurt. I'm ready for a world title shot, 100%."

  10. Undercard: DeGale beats Gonzales in eliminatorpublished at 21:09 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

James DeGale wins his IBF super-middleweight final eliminator against Brandon Gonzalez following a fourth-round stoppage.

"Less than an hour now until the first bell for Froch and Groves, who will be making their ring walks at 9.45."

  12. Postpublished at 21:04 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

England forward Wayne Rooney, speaking to Sky Sports Box Office: "I am sure tonight will be a great fight again and I think Carl Froch might stop George Groves because of his experience and know-how in the big fights and his power. You could see that in the first fight. If he does not get hit like he did in the first fight then he might stop him a bit earlier."

Promoter Barry Hearn, speaking to Sky Sports: "I have never in my 40 years of promoting sport in this country embraced something of the magnitude of this evening. I love my darts, my fishing and I have a real passion for boxing. But it is in a new world now.

"For so many years we have been bowing to the draw of Las Vegas, now we can out-promote, out-gross, out-entertain anything in America, because there is nothing like this.

"This is a climatic change in the world of boxing and the future is (my son) Eddie Hearn, because he will take boxing to levels you cannot imagine."

Boxing manager and promoter Frank Warren: "Carl Froch - entering his 12th successive world championship - holds a massive sway in experience. He is also naturally more rugged and can work at a far brisker pace over the twelve rounds, but he needs to start fast. To retain, he needs to start quickly, drag Groves into a war and then drown him down the stretch. But, for me, it's Groves's fight to lose. Froch won't bring anything new whereas the question is has Groves learnt anything from the first encounter."

Matt: People can't be booing Froch because they suddenly dislike or disrespect him; they are booing him because they want him to EARN their love and respect, like Groves did in the first fight. I believe he will do that, and believe that he will stop Groves in the 11th."

  18. Big fight predictionspublished at 20:51 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury: "Sick of people asking me about Groves-Froch. They are two 12-stoners, I'd slap the pair of them. #sizematters, it's all about the heavyweights."

  19. Big fight predictionspublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

Former world super-middleweight champion Richie Woodhall: "I think it will be similar to the last one and Groves will have his moments, but I am expecting Froch to win. I have watched Carl train and spar and he looks as strong as ever. I really don't buy into what people are saying about him being on the slide. He's 36 now and there's probably only a couple of fights left for him. One day Groves will be a world champion - I just don't think it's this weekend."

James DeGale (18-1) could not have a bigger incentive tonight. He is likely to fight the winner of Froch v Groves if he can get past the USA's Brandon Gonzales (18-0-1). That fight is about to get under way, with Britain's Amir Khan in the corner of Gonzales. Interesting.
