Let's hear from the man who seems to be the betting favourite, despite George Groves being the man in possession of the WBA super-middleweight belt.

Some good fighting talk from Chris Eubank Jr, as you would probably expect.

  2. A few cutting words...published at 21:23 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2018

    Groves v Eubank

    Luke Reddy
BBC Sport boxing reporter at Manchester Arena

Make no mistake, George Groves can’t believe he’s not favourite for this fight. Add the big occasions he’s seen to the fact he holds a world crown and you can understand why.

He’s been quiet all week, refined and careful with his words. He actually told the BBC that back when he was preparing to face Carl Froch in 2013 and 2014, he’d be angry with himself if he couldn’t get ‘The Cobra’ to bite during press events.

There’s been none of that this time, Eubank Jr has done the chasing, allowing the champion to fire off one liners.

When each fighter was asked how they think their rival would react to defeat, Groves simply said: “He’ll blame his dad and move back down to middleweight.”

It was cutting. Make no mistake, inside Groves is boiling up inside. He’s just keeping it under wraps. Well, almost.

George Groves v Chris Eubank Jr

He already has a brand new football shirt, will Chris Eubank Jr have a world title belt to go along with that?

Earlier this week, he visited the Manchester United AON Training Complex and was presented with a United shirt.

He is pictured below with United players Victor Lindelof, Matteo Darmian, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young.

There are some very stern arguments between people who know the game and who are on different sides of the fence here.

I think this fight will be won at distance. If George Groves can keep Chris Eubank at the end of a very powerful jab, I think that could be key. I side with Groves. It is ultimately fascinating because their styles are so different.

One of the key factors in the fight for me is how Eubank Jr deals with the movement and boxing brain of George Groves because Eubank's recent opponents have basically stood in front of him.

Carl Froch once told me about sparring Eubank Jr. He said he crunched some right hands on Eubank Jr's chin and there was absolutely no chance of him going anywhere, no shakes, trembles. So he can take a shot.

  5. Too good to miss...published at 21:18 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2018

James and Tara Birks (above), are lapping up a night away from their young baby at home.

Granny and grandad have been called in to man the ship because James tells me this fight called out to them as he thinks it will be close.

“I’m sick of seeing fights where a journeyman gets mowed down,” says James. “We come now and again but mainly watch on TV. This one though, the fight looks too good.

“We both fancy Groves but only in the first four rounds. If it goes beyond that Eubank should have the stamina to come through on points.”

And will the couple be making a night of it and hitting Manchester’s bars?

“Not a chance,” James says. “As soon as one man goes down the phone will ring and we’ll be expected home for the baby”.

Enjoy it while it lasts folks.

  6. Groves thinks Eubank's busy schedule could harm himpublished at 21:17 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2018

In the build-up to the fight, George Groves criticised Chris Eubank and said he was not committed enough to boxing, saying he was "at the opening of a crisp packet these days".

George Groves v Chris Eubank Jr

Redmaz65: Unfortunately, Groves for me, nearly a stone heavier and much the bigger man will tell in the end. Hope I'm wrong though.

Coolverine: Looking forward to this, don't care who wins as long as it's a cracker of a fight.

Khalil McGee: Groves was robbed twice in his three losses. He is far bigger, a *far* better boxer and has a bigger punch. Eubank is fast also with a bang. Assuming Groves doesn't see the red mist he should walk it.

  9. Bellew expects 'a brilliant fight'published at 21:11 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2018

Former WBC world cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew expects a cracker. He said: "This fight excites me and I'm tipping Groves on points in a brilliant fight.

"Don't be surprised if he actually stops him. It's a huge super-middleweight against a small middleweight in my opinion. The only things he has on Groves are workrate and youth. People get caught up in hype so much."

George Groves v Chris Eubank Jr

Chris Eubank Jr says this fight with George Groves in Manchester will "separate" him from his father - a former two-weight world champion - and allow him to "come out of his shadow".

The Eubank family are no strangers to massive nights in boxing.

Chris Eubank Sr fought 52 times in an incredible career, including some memorable fights with Nigel Benn and Steve Collins.

Eubank Sr won 45 times in his career that spanned from 1985 to 1998 and picked up the WBO world middleweight title in 1990 before becoming a two-weight world champion in 1991 by claiming the WBO super-middleweight belt.

In his career he won 17 world title fights and is now guiding his son through his boxing journey.

  12. Time to banish the memories of 2013?published at 21:07 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2018

The Manchester Arena was the scene of one of the most disappointing moments in George Groves' career.

Back in November 2013, Groves was making his first attempt at winning a world title against then IBF and WBA super-middleweight title holder Carl Froch.

Groves knocked Froch down in the opening round, but then lost with a hugely controversial stoppage by referee Howard Foster in round nine. Groves has not fought in Manchester since then.

He has been in action 10 times since that defeat, including further unsuccessful stabs at a world title against Froch and Badou Jack before he finally got his hands on a world belt in 2017 when he beat Fedor Chudinov.

In all honesty, Las Vegas would be proud of what the World Boxing Super Series is pulling off here. I keep expecting the ring to take off.

Down near the ring heavyweight Hughie Fury wears a blazer with what looks like a velour finish. Big cousin Tyson is in the house too. Sadly, I’ve not been able to confirm his attire.

  15. What is the World Boxing Super Series?published at 21:03 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2018

Not only is there a world title on the line and Eubank's lesser-regarded IBO belt, there is also a spot in the final of the World Boxing Super Series on the line.

The competition has been described as the "Champions League of boxing" with two tournaments, one for cruiserweights and one for super-middleweights.

Each category offers a $25m (£19m) prize fund and a trophy named after late boxing great Muhammad Ali, with the winner of each expected to receive $10m (£7.6m) in total over the three victories needed to land the title.

In October, Eubank Jr defeated Turkey's Avni Yildirim in three rounds and Groves defeated fellow Brit Jamie Cox in the fourth round in their respective quarter-finals.

Another British fighter, Callum Smith, will fight tonight's winner in the final on 2 June in London if he can overcome German Jurgen Brahmer in next week's second semi-final in Germany.
