    Alvarez beats Golovkin

    Mike Costello
BBC Sport boxing correspondent on Radio 5 live

In essence the judges were only one round adrift and that's how close it was.

We couldn't read out Carl Frampton's tweet but Terence Crawford says, 'Wow, great fight but Triple G knew he needed a knockout.'

  7. Andrade next?published at 06:09 British Summer Time 16 September 2018

    Alvarez beats Golovkin

    Demetrius Andrade
Former light middleweight world champion on BBC Radio 5 live

Mike Costello asked Demetrius if he beats Billy Joe Saunders on 20 October, would he fancy a fight with Alvarez?

I might need to bring a bat to beat Canelo and different judges. I haven't got the same fighting style as Triple G. Triple G was flowing nice with the jab but Canelo's in for a long night if he gets in with me.

  8. 'Take a year before the trilogy fight'published at 06:04 British Summer Time 16 September 2018

    Alvarez beats Golovkin

Audley Harrison, Olympic super-heavyweight champion in 2000, doesn't agree with the result.

And if the trilogy is completed next year, he would like to see it in 12 months instead of six.

  15. 'Controversy aplenty'published at 05:31 British Summer Time 16 September 2018

    Alvarez beats Golovkin

    Mike Costello
BBC Sport boxing correspondent on Radio 5 live

    Controversy will be generated.

There are bound to be boxing fans out there who felt Canelo won and there will be loads of people shaking their heads.

A lot of people are mystified as to how Canelo won the fight. All judges were in agreement for the first six rounds, it was 4-2 at that stage and we had it the other way around to Golovkin.

But those scores show that Canelo clearly won the fight in the judges' eyes, even though this could be debated for a long time because of those cards. There will be an awful lot of talk for the next few weeks and that is one upside for the sport. It wouldn't have got this amount of talk had it not been a controversial result.

    Mike Costello
BBC Sport boxing correspondent on Radio 5 live

  19. Postpublished at 05:23 British Summer Time 16 September 2018

    Demetrius Andrade
Former light middleweight world champion on BBC Radio 5 live

Canelo definitely showed up to win but didn't do enough to win. I don't want the judges to be needed for the next one. The fans know it and you could tell by the boos after the fight.

The judges were only one round adrift. That's how close it was. And some in boxing may not say Canelo's win here is not good for boxing.
