    Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez knocked Rocky Fielding down four times in an emphatic third-round stoppage win in New York.

    Alvarez, 28, was heavy favourite and brutal left hands to the body dropped his rival in rounds one and two, all but ending hope of an unlikely upset. A stinging right to the jaw again downed Fielding in round three, before another left connected with the body, prompting the bout to be waved off.

    Alvarez now holds a minor version of the WBA world super-middleweight title.

    Despite the status of the WBA's 'regular' title compared to the 'super' title Britain's Callum Smith holds in the same division, Alvarez can now boast being a world champion in three weight divisions.

    He still holds the WBC and WBA titles at middleweight - a division lower - and his move up 8lb only ever looked like ending in victory as he broke Fielding's heart early on with a savage display of body punching.

    Nigel Harris: Brave of Rocky Fielding and credit to him for having a go and going down fighting. Can't blame him for taking it but that proved to be the complete mismatch we always knew it was. Down four times in three rounds, those Canelo body shots were vicious.

    Real AP: Fielding looked scared of the whole experience and never just unleashed his gloves. It's like he wanted the money and that's it.

    Our winner Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez: "Fortunately for me he came to attack and that was the error he made. The plan was to hit to the body and then move up. I felt good and I felt strong.

    Asked about his future hopes, he says: "To make sure the name of Canelo and Mexico is held high. I always want to make the best fights for the public.

    "I'm happy and grateful to be here and I hope this is the first of many (at Madison Square Garden)."

    Breaking

    Rocky Fielding was knocked down in the first, knocked down in the second and knocked down in the third. On each occasion he got up, but yet another crushing, rib-breaking left to the body sees him collapse for a fourth time.

    This time referee Ricky Gonzalez has seen enough and stops it without counting.
