  4. 'Beat him and I'm the next big thing in boxing'published at 04:23 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Canelo v Fielding

This is a potentially life-changing time for Rocky Fielding, but he admits he will have to prove a lot of critics wrong.

He says: "This is what I want to do in my life, I am putting everything into it, so how can people give me stick? I've had a few horrible messages on social media. How can you say that? I have been in this game since I was nine. I've had a lot of setbacks, ups and downs.

"People are saying I am selling my belt or I've lost before I fight. No, I am not selling anything - I accepted the fight before knowing the money. I also have my family, my boy and my newborn girl, so these things are for them, these are the reasons I miss the nursery runs, the weekend outings as a family, the night feeds.

"I turned professional with no promoter. My first fight was in a sport centre with 500 people. I got on the double-decker bus home with most of them. To now fight in Madison Square Garden as a world champion is unbelievable.

"I know how elite he is, I know how tough it will be, but beat him and I'm the next big thing in boxing."

  10. 'I was dreaming one day of fighting here'published at 03:51 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has only lost one of his 53 fights - that coming against Floyd Mayweather - and last time out gained a points win over Gennady Golovkin.

The Mexican is priced as little as 1-20 to win this one, but that has not stopped Rocky Fielding from dreaming.

"He doesn't make many mistakes but it's boxing. He could make one and I could get to him," said Fielding.

"I was here three years ago, sitting high up watching the New York Knicks, dreaming one day of fighting here. I have put so much work in, had setbacks and kept positive - and here I am with my name all around the arena.

"I went to Germany, no one gave me a chance (against Tyron Zeugge) and I took it with both hands. No one will give me a chance here but I believe in myself. Champions win and defend it wherever they need to defend it."

If you missed it earlier on...

Katie Taylor produced the best display of her professional career to inflict a first defeat on Eva Wahlstrom and defend her IBF and WBA World Lightweight titles in New York.

Ireland's Taylor, 32, won each of the 10 rounds at Madison Square Garden against a Finnish opponent who holds a world title in a lower weight division.

Wahlstrom, bloodied late on by a head clash, had no answer to Taylor's speed and ferocity at any time.

Taylor won 100-90 on all three cards.

  12. 'We are going to make history'published at 03:41 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

Let's hear from Canelo Alvarez, who is aiming to collect the WBA super-middleweight title.

"This new phase in my career I'm happy and motivated," said Alvarez, who still holds two of the four world titles in the 160lbs middleweight division. "I like the challenge and know we are going to make history."

Despite the belt's junior status, Alvarez says he is "days away from history" in joining a small list of Mexicans to win world titles in three weight divisions.

"I never like to get over confident if I'm favourite or not," Alvarez told BBC Sport. "It's that important in the sport of boxing because one punch can change everything.

"To enter the select group of Mexicans to be a three-weight world champion, it's motivating me."

"I have prepared mentally and can't be star struck and pinch myself at who I am fighting - that won't work," Fielding told BBC Sport. "I know all I'm up against.

"It's at my weight I'm comfortable at; he's stepping up. I'll be naturally stronger at the weight. That gives me confidence."

What is going to happen tonight?

Mancunia: Rocky has every chance. Canelo is quality but so is Fielding. I prefer to be optimistic for an honest pro who deserves this shot and will give it his very best shot. Come on Rocky!

Harry Cross: Rocky has got to knock Canelo out after what happened to Tyson Fury the other week, he could outbox him for 12 rounds but he will struggle to win on points.

MD03: Rocky has to make this, in effect, a four-round fight. Never going to get a decision against Canelo in the States, for obvious reasons, so get out there and let the leather fly.
