It was a quiet round compared to the three previously. Ramirez has to take risks now.

  2. Round ninepublished at 03:37 British Summer Time 23 May 2021

    Taylor v Ramirez

Into the ninth, the fatigue must be kicking in. The punch resistance must surely ebb away.

The four world light-welterweight titles are ringside and if it were end now, they'd be given to Josh Taylor. Something tells you there's drama to come though as Ramirez ends the ninth on the front foot, throwing and swaying from the hips to do so.

These two men, even Taylor, has to be tired.

I thought Ramirez was one shot away from it being it called off, but with 30 seconds to go suddenly Taylor looked tired.

  5. Round eightpublished at 03:33 British Summer Time 23 May 2021

    Taylor v Ramirez

So Josh Taylor must be up now with two 10-8 rounds under the belt. Will he press it here given how wiped Ramirez looked before the bell?

It's a patient start to the eighth but he's looking for s big one, I can tell you that. Once again he flicks a jab out twice to just feel some range and cracks a left hand home.

Ramirez goes to the body, Taylor goes over the top of his rival's hand to the head. This is some display now, Taylor is shining. And he's loving it, eye balling his man on the bell.

That knock down will be used in future to show how spiteful Josh Taylor is. He craftily grappled, moved Ramirez's right hand out of the way and slammed an uppercut home.

    Credit for the guile.

Credit to the floored man for rising.

    Wow.

Forget by the bell, saved by Kenny Bayliss. The referee has been an absolute disgrace tonight. He cost Josh Taylor about seven or eight seconds at that knockdown there.

  8. Round sevenpublished at 03:30 British Summer Time 23 May 2021

    Taylor v Ramirez

There's a photo dropped on our wires of Tyson Fury in his waistcoat with no shirt underneath. It's like a Miami Vice character but guess what? I'm not using it as this fight is all we need.

It's high level, it's intense, it's slick and it's all on the line. Josh Taylor has found his timing, he rocks out of range and fires back with a right hook nicely. Every shot seems to anger Ramirez though and he tries a flurry of body shots.

What round are we in? 87? No, seven. It's that good my friends, even at 03:28am.

What next? KABOOM... Ramirez is down. A huge, huge left hand from Josh Taylor. Just 10 seconds of the round left, it could be over.... the bell comes.

    This is something else.

What a turnaround. I thought he wasn't hurting him, but it was about timing, it was the first time in the fight Taylor was able to counter him.

The knockdown was a counter punch. Taylor rocked back to slip out of range and nailed a left hand on the jaw.

That was a 10-8 round of course. Big.

  12. Round six...published at 03:24 British Summer Time 23 May 2021

    Taylor v Ramirez

The bell sounds and within 15 seconds Jose Ramirez IS DOWN!

Face first on the canvas he rolls on to his back, take a count and can't wait to get back at it. He's never been down before. It was a flash knock down but what a huge moment. Josh Taylor is earning every second of this but things have improved for sure.

Halfway through the round, Ramirez is like that family member who won't leave at Christmas as he's in Taylor's face again. He's like the villain at the end of a computer game level who just won't move out of the way.

Two jabs to find range and BANG, stinging left hand from Taylor. The same combination, two to find range and an uppercut. These punches carry some proper venom.

    What a round.

I thought Taylor did better in that round. Both fighters were having success. This is real fight.

  15. Round fivepublished at 03:21 British Summer Time 23 May 2021

    Taylor v Ramirez

Early in the fifth and Josh Taylor is cut above his eye.

This is proving a testing night for sure. We know Taylor carries a spite in his punching as he has broken down men in the past but so far Jose Ramirez seems to be ready to take it. A nice right hook though shudders against the side of Ramirez's face and well, what can we say, this fight is on.

A left hand from Taylor gets home with 30 seconds on the clock. This is gripping stuff. Taylor on the move, suddenly he's looking a little more spritely and those shots have given him a spring. Once again - as he did in round one - he raises a hand at the bell.

    A great fight.

What a fight. Back and forth action. Taylor wants to fight up close, it's when it's at range it suits Ramirez.

  19. Round fourpublished at 03:14 British Summer Time 23 May 2021

    Taylor v Ramirez

I can tell you our pundits - Joe Gallagher and Steve Bunce - both have it 2-1 Ramirez going into this fourth.

The output is there from Ramirez. Each time Taylor gets something useful off, a reply comes back at him and every punch looks loaded. Taylor lands a left hook, Ramirez isn't happy as he thinks it's behind the head. Will it keep him off his man? No chance, here he comes again and CRACK, a great dig into the body from Taylor. That would have taken down a farmyard animal but guess what, Ramirez is there and punching still.

A cracking round. Both of them ate some nasty stuff.
