A stark reminder of the dangers of this sport and the levels of bravery all fighters show when they get into the ring.

After the initial celebrations at the knockout victory by Leigh Wood, excitement quickly turned to anxiety as it became clear Michael Conlan was in a bad way and needed medical attention.

On the opposite side of the ring a fan, wearing a green shirt, tried to get into the ring before he was wrestled by security and taken away.

Both Leigh Wood and Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn said their only thoughts were not of celebration, but with Michael Conlan and everyone is praying he is OK.

Former world champion Josh Warrington could be the next man Wood faces. Warrington will challenge Kiko Martinez later this month for the IBF featherweight title. A win will set up a mouthwatering Wood-Warrington all-British unification fight.

Leigh Wood can now look forward to bigger things here in the featherweight division. He has somehow turned this one around and retained his WBA world featherweight title.

A pulsating contest sees Leigh Wood remain champion of the world.

When Leigh Wood was knocked out in the final seconds of round one, and then absolutely dominated at the start of the second, I did not think it would go past three rounds.

There were large parts in the middle and late rounds where Conlan was putting on a boxing masterclass.

Then came that 12th round knockout. It, rightfully, has not been repeated on the TV broadcast.

It's often easy to get carried away in this sport but this has been one of the most action-packed and enthralling nights of boxing I have witnessed in a very long time.
