Fastest in all three sessions for Lando Norris and this time he has managed to put daylight between himself and his team-mate Oscar Piastri.

But the two McLarens are well clear of the rest of the field.

Lando Norris tops final practice with a blistering time of 1:08.972. The Brit is looking strong after going fastest in all three sessions.

He got pole last year and a race victory in Zandvoort, let's see if he can put his McLaren on pole again this afternoon.

I’m stood down by the pit entry for final practice and saw the Fernando Alonso and George Russell incident right in front of me. It was an extremely close call between the Aston Martin and the Mercedes, with Alonso using his cat-like reflexes to avoid a potential clash. How the photographers get a snap of these situations, I don’t know. This was my lousy attempt.

The top three remains unchanged with five minutes of the session left.

Every driver is on soft tyre now apart from Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari, who is on the medium compound.

That was tight! Fernando Alonso, who was on a quick lap, nearly collided with George Russell on the pit entry.

I would say Lando Norris' emotions are his biggest strength and his biggest weakness. You can see sometimes him being very hard on himself.

What we forget is Lando has been in the junior categories and has won championships. Although it has been a while he is no stranger to being a championship-winning driver.

He is now in that position where he is challenging for it in F1.

  13. Norris goes P1published at 11:19 British Summer Time 30 August

Wow! Lando Norris has gone fastest and has smashed last year's pole time, and it's still only practice!

Championship leader Oscar Piastri couldn't improve and is 0.242s behind Norris.

I've just been watching Kimi Antonelli being pushed back into the garage. The tyres are off and Evan Short, the head of Trackside Electronics for Mercedes took the steering wheel out, was then joined by some other engineers to look at it and it has now been put back in. So whatever was stuck is hopefully remedied.

Max Verstappen fans are out supporting their home hero with an assortment of signs. When the Dutch Grand Prix was reintroduced to the F1 calendar in 2021, the Red Bull driver won three consecutive races in a row before Lando Norris took victory in 2024.

Kimi Antonelli is on the radio reporting an issue with the "downshift paddle". The rookie is down in P15 at the moment.

Most drivers are now on the medium tyre with 15 minutes of the session remaining.

McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are flying on the soft tyres.

He's stayed on the medium tyre and is currently in eighth.

There's been a few complaints on the radio about traffic and drivers getting in the way of each other.

McLaren's Oscar Piastri has now gone quickest of all, with his team-mate Lando Norris 0.142s behind.

Mercedes' George Russell is in third after setting a time on the medium tyre.

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc look to be having a stronger overall session as they round out the top five.

Locals Marleen and Larissa are visiting Zandvoort for the very first time. Impressions so far? Great. Would they come back here next year for the Dutch Grand Prix’s final farewell? “No,” the pair say in unison. “It’s very expensive to come; over one thousand euros,” adds Marleen.

As for Max Verstappen’s chances this year, the collective feeling is a win would be a bit of a miracle. “Maybe fourth?” Is Larissa’s prediction. So, who takes the victory on Sunday? “Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri,” she adds.

If Max doesn’t win tomorrow, the Orange Army mood won’t be too bleak. “For the Dutch fans, they love everybody,” says Marleen.

There's lots of blind corners here. It will be difficult [during qualifying] and it will be where the drivers really need clear communication with their engineers.
