Hamilton is struggling to get to grips with this Ferrari around this circuit. He is in desperate need of a good weekend.

They [the team] do seem to be improving and listening to the drivers, so that's the main thing.

Ferrari is well represented in Zandvoort, even if the weekend doesn’t promise to bring glory.

Miriam and Mia have made the short trip from Germany to spread their support evenly: Charles Leclerc for Miriam, Lewis Hamilton for Mia.

Is a podium realistic for the Scuderia? “Erm… we can hope!” Miriam says. “Leclerc would be most likely to get one.”

The Dutch Grand Prix is a favourite of the two fans. “We came last year and loved it; the atmosphere is amazing,” says Mia. “I’m so sad it’s not going to be around next year. I love this race.”

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are now out of the Ferrari garage and are on the medium tyres.

Leclerc described it as "a very, very, very, very difficult Friday, probably the worst of the season".

Let's see what they can do today.

  7. 'Aston Martins competitive'published at 10:54 British Summer Time 30 August

    Andrew Benson
    BBC F1 correspondent in Zandvoort

Fernando Alonso laughed yesterday when he was asked if he could compete with the McLarens for the front row but he did say that the Ferraris, Mercedes and Red Bulls were not that far away and they could maybe compete with them.

The Aston Martin in this downforce configuration is pretty competitive.

  8. Alonso goes fastestpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 30 August

Aston Martin's Lance Stroll tops the timesheet on the soft tyre. He had a crash in FP2 on Friday and his mechanics broke curfew to get the car fixed in time.

His team-mate Fernando Alonso is looking confident and he pips Stroll, setting a time of 1:11.082.

The tyres Pirelli have selected for Zandvoort are the C2 hard tyres, C3 mediums and C4 soft compounds.

This selection is one step softer than what was brought last year's Dutch Grand Prix.

The green intermediate tyre and the blue full wets are also available should they be needed.

It was a busy track yesterday with drivers eager to get out on track, but everyone is still out of their cars apart from Isack Hadjar.

He has the track to himself right now and is on the intermediate tyres.

  14. What's the weather like in Zandvoort?published at 10:34 British Summer Time 30 August

    Weather forecast for Zandvoort

The rain seems to have passed from earlier as we get prepared for final practice. The track is looking fairly damp but the sunshine is out in Zandvoort.

The temperature is 20C with a breeze.

I can't say it will be the same conditions for the race tomorrow as the forecast is currently showing light rain.

  15. 'Alonso looking really fast'published at 10:34 British Summer Time 30 August

    Abbi Pulling

The Aston Martins are looking really strong this weekend. Fernando Alonso is looking really fast.

I'm not surprised there's no rush out yet. The conditions are not ideal. There are still a few wet patches at Turn One.

I'm at McLaren and Oscar Piastri has been sitting in his cockpit for quite some time. Lando Norris is a little later than Piastri, he has just got into his car.

We should get under way soon but no-one I can see making a beeline for the pit exit.

    Sitting tight.

    Final practice goes green!

There were quite few spins and cars dipping in the gravel in Friday’s practice sessions.

  18. 'Umbrellas not needed'published at 10:29 British Summer Time 30 August

    Rosanna Tennant
5 Live F1 reporter in Zandvoort

It is looking pretty nice right now. A lot of blue sky. When I drew back the curtains this morning it was torrential rain and on the way to the circuit a lot of people were buying umbrellas but they are not really needed right now.

However, down here in the pit lane it is incredibly greasy. The teams are out trying to dry all the little areas where the cars will stop in.

  19. Alonso rules out challenging McLarens in Zandvoortpublished at 10:29 British Summer Time 30 August

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso ruled out any prospect of competing with the McLarens for a front-row starting position at the Dutch Grand Prix despite splitting Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in Friday practice.

Alonso was just 0.087 seconds slower than Norris after the Briton topped both sessions at Zandvoort.

But the two-time champion laughed when it was suggested he might fight with the McLarens in qualifying on Saturday.

"I don't think it's within our reach to fight with the McLarens," Alonso said, "but maybe some of the top teams, Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, they seem not too far away. So we will try to be in that mix."

Lando Norris heads into the weekend nine points behind Oscar Piastri, who was just 0.002secs slower than Fernando Alonso in the second practice session yesterday after being second to Norris by 0.292secs in the first.

Both McLaren drivers said they had had a "good day" preparing their cars for the rest of the weekend, with the teams expecting rain to affect running today.

Norris appeared to have the edge on Piastri all day, and was quicker than his team-mate on both one-lap pace and race-simulation runs.
