No rain - which is rare! I thought we would get something, but no. Cars are just lining up on the grid now to do a practice start, but I've heard we may be in for biblical rain tonight.

So if you're camping at Silverstone, I'm sorry!

All drivers are completing now some form of race simulation. So they'll just be adding the last lap or two laps to that collection of laps, and then they'll go back and understand about the tyre degradation and their race pace compared to who they believe are their closest competitors.

Lando Norris remains fastest on track.

Fellow brits George Russell is fifth and Lewis Hamilton is seventh.

Pit entry has closed, meaning no one can come into the pit lane. I think this is going to catch a few people out because at this point there will be people wanting to come in for new tyres.

Charles Leclerc was setting a fast lap but almost comes into contact with the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll.

The marshals have pushed Oscar Piastri's car into the McLaren garage. Can the engineers get his car fixed in time for FP2?

At the moment, it's definitely not raining here. But this track is so long - it's one of the longest of the season - that you can get localised drizzle in certain parts of the track and in other parts it's absolutely dry.

Oscar Piastri has slowed down, he trundles into the pit lane, can he make it in to the garage?

No! Poor Oscar is stuck on the pit lane entry.

The pit lane entry has now been closed for everyone else.

  13. Has the Ferrari upgrade worked?published at 13:20 British Summer Time 5 July

    Andrew Benson
    BBC F1 correspondent at Silverstone

Ferrari brought an upgrade to Spain a few races ago and they are insisting it did what they expected it to do, but they seem to have fallen back relatively to Red Bull, McLaren and Mercedes following it.

The question is, is it that they have not fully understood that upgrade, and that there's more to come from the car as a result when they optimise the set-up; Charles Leclerc was saying yesterday they have got some ideas to try today in practice to prove that point.

Or, is it that the upgrade didn't perform in the way the team wanted it to. They're saying it did, but has it done something to the car which has made it harder to get performance out of it.

Does anyone know if he's claimed the British Grand Prix as a home race yet?

Why have the other rookies been quiet?

Isack Hadjar has been running a few tests for Red Bull, while there's an issue with the Alpine of Jack Doohan.

Poor Jack! Last time his practice session was cut short with the rain in Canada.

Haas are coming here off the back of a really good result in Austria where both of their drivers scored points, and Ollie Bearman in that number 50 car is out there doing what the team have asked him to do.

So he might not be out there setting the fastest laps in the world but he will be steadily trying to get all the information they want for this newly updated Haas.
