    You have to be absolutely spot on when driving at Silverstone. It's got high-speed corners, it flows superbly and it's one of the drivers' favourites, but it is difficult on the tyres.

    I'm just about to walk to the pit lane from the paddock - which is now bathed in sunshine; beautiful. There are loads of fans here this weekend, they've poured into the circuit and there's a really good atmosphere.

    Brad Pitt was spotted in the paddock before first practice. He's continuing the filming of his F1 movie.

    The film, co-produced by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, is expected to be released on 25 June 2025.

    Alpine's Pierre Gasly will start the British Grand Prix from the back of the grid after exceeding the number of permitted power-unit parts with a new engine fitted this weekend.

    Red Bull's Sergio Perez, Williams' Logan Sargeant, Haas' Kevin Magnussen and Alpine's Pierre Gasly will be back in their cars for their first practice session of the weekend.

    The four rookies have given back the F1 cars after borrowing them for the first practice session.

    Oliver Bearman, who will be an F1 driver next year, was 14th, Jack Doohan was 17th in the Alpine.

    The Williams of Franco Colaointo finished 18th and Isack Hadjar in the Red Bull was 19th.

    It was a good first practice session for Lando Norris, the British driver topped the time sheet and will want to continue his form for the rest of the weekend.

    Aston Martin's Lance Stroll and Oscar Piastri make up the top three.

    Max Verstappen is in fourth, George Russell in fifth, Fernando Alondo sixth and Lewis Hamilton seventh.

    All four teams, along with Sauber, have come with upgrades for Silverstone.

    Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri and Yuki Tsunoda will be hoping their cars are fixed for second practice.

    McLaren’s Lando Norris set the pace in first practice at the British Grand Prix.

    Norris, seeking his first win in his home race, was 0.134 seconds clear of Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll in a session that provided little insight into competitive form.

    Norris’ team-mate Oscar Piastri was third, with Max Verstappen’s Red Bull fourth.

    The world champion was the quickest driver to set his best lap on medium-compound tyres, while the three drivers in front used softs.
