Oscar Piastri has already taken a pole and win this season, sealing a perfect weekend at the Chinese Grand Prix in March. He was also on the podium in third place last weekend in Japan which moved him above George Russell in the standings.

The Australian beat the Mercedes of Russell to pole by 0.168 seconds and said he's been feeling confident all weekend. His eye-catching lap in third practice foreshadowing his qualifying triumph.

If Piastri takes victory today, and team-mate Lando Norris and Max Verstappen stay sixth and seventh, he will leave Bahrain leading of the drivers' championship by four points.

Alex Albon has moved up a place following the very late deletion of Nico Hulkenberg's Q1 lap time for exceeding track limits at Turn 11. Williams were not happy that Albon missed the chance to compete in Q2 and in a statement, the FIA said on this occasion, "we got it wrong".

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton were other big names to struggle during yesterday's qualifying session and the pair are stuck starting in the middle of the pack in seventh and ninth respectively.

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were in very different frames of mind following yesterday's qualifying in Bahrain but Sunday is a new day. With overtaking possible in Sakhir, and the McLaren being hailed as "on another planet" at the start of the weekend, can Norris claw his way back into contention for a podium place?
