The nerves might start to jangle for Lando Norris. He's seventh on the timesheets at the moment, over three tenths away from Max Verstappen's top Q2 time. Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, has dropped down into the elimination zone in 12th place.

That's impressive by Max Verstappen who is on a brand new set of soft tyres.

Lando Norris had his lap time deleted after cutting the first chicane as he set off on his opening push lap in Q2. The Briton needs to refocus and head out again, but his pit wall tell him it's going to be tight to fit in a push, cool, cool, push.

Kimi Antonelli will be hoping for a better weekend here but at the moment it's not looking great for him, he needs to find something.

He will have the added benefit of being able to see George Russell's data between the sessions.

Two purple sectors for Max Verstappen, and a tow from championship front runner Oscar Piastri, puts the Dutchman at the top of the timesheets with a 1:19.140. George Russell goes 0.147 seconds behind Verstappen in second followed by the McLaren of Piastri. Lando Norris, meanwhile, is told to box this lap.

Anon: Wonder if Aston will eventually give up on Lance Stroll. He just is not quick enough to be in F1.

Dave: When is Lance Stroll going to be replaced? Ridiculous good fortune to still have a seat, he's terrible!

Williams have sent out Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz first, with Albon, thanks to a little tow from his Spanish team-mate, hitting a purple sector in the first past of the lap.

But it's Sainz who comes out on top following an understeer moment at Turn Nine for Albon. Sainz's marker is 1:20.239 on the softs.

Every driver out there is going to pushing to the absolute limit when you're in a qualifying session, but because it's such fine margins these mistakes and the lack of grip get highlighted even more.

That dip of a wheel could cost you a tenth and that could be five, six positions.

Alan: These grid penalties spoil it for everyone. Better to fine the driver and donate it to charity.

George Russell topped that session with his medium tyre time from the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and the McLaren of Lando Norris. Oscar Piastri was down in 10th place, but it's only Q1, so he lives to fight another day.

It's disappointment for Pierre Gasly after his contract extension announcement earlier today. Both Alpines were on the chopping block, along with Isack Hadjar, third in Zandvoort last weekend, and Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls.

It did look like Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri set their times on a new set of soft tyres whereas Ferrari were an old set of soft tyres.

Ferrari have gone out now on a new set of soft tyres, so we will keep an eye on this.
