Lyon have control of the tie this evening following their 2-1 success at Emirates Stadium last Saturday.

Kadidiatou Diani opened the scoring for Lyon before Mariona Caldentey gave Arsenal hope of pulling it back when she slotted home a 78th-minute penalty.

But Melchie Dumornay was on hand to restore Lyon's advantage just four minutes later.

The French side are searching for their ninth Women's Champions League title, while Arsenal want to win it for the second time and lift a European trophy for the first time in 18 years.

After their defeat, forward Caitlin Foord said she thinks Arsenal have what it takes to turn it around.

There were plenty of red and white shirts hanging around outside the ground as I made my way in and it's expected that Arsenal will have around 400 supporters inside the Groupama Stadium this evening.

A couple of bars around the ground were bathed in sunshine a couple of hours before kick-off and it the Gunners faithful had picked there as their pre-match base.

I chatted to a few on my way in and they were in high spirits and full of confidence that Arsenal can overturn the deficit here in France.

There was even a shout for 3-0. Thoughts, Gunners?

Lyon

Lyon midfielder Lindsey Heaps, speaking in a pre-match news conference: "The Arsenal players have made a lot of comebacks this season, and especially in the Champions League. They are a good team, who have progressed a lot. We know what they have to do to get back into the game, it's up to us to focus on ourselves.

"The level of demand here can be felt from the first minutes of the season. We know what the objectives are, the standards of this team, the objectives of trophies. The intensity is enormous in training and that's what best prepares us for big games and conditions success in order to win as many trophies as possible here. This team is always ready for these kinds of moments."

Arsenal are down, but they're definitely not out of their Women's Champions League semi-final against eight-time winners Lyon.

The Gunners had more shots, more possession and more touches inside their opponent's box in the first leg, but ultimately it was Lyon who left Emirates Stadium with a 2-1 lead.

Now, Renee Slegers' side must overturn a deficit in France on Sunday if they are to reach their first Champions League final since 2007, the season in which they won the title.

They face a stiff task though, with Lyon unbeaten in the Champions League this season, having conceded just three goals in nine games. They have only been knocked out twice in 15 years after winning the first leg in the knockout stage and on those occasions it was to the now redundant away goals rule.

While Chelsea's hopes of a first European trophy were dashed by their 8-2 aggregate defeat by Barcelona 4-1, there is belief Arsenal can still turn things around to ensure there is at least one English team in the final.

Lyon moved to this new ground in 2016 and situated around it are four lions - a red, a blue, a gold and a white one.

Each made by a 3D printer with 88 little modules all pieced together.

It's a pretty obvious connection to make - Lyon, lion - and it has long been associated with the city. A symbol of nobility, strength, resistance, and courage.

Lyon were absolutely savage playing through the midfield, I particularly thought Lindsey Heaps controlled it. When she got into the game she was absolutely pulling it apart.

The likes of their front three completely cut through that Arsenal back line. They capitalised on the opportunities Arsenal created [in the first leg].

I think they really need to work on working the ball around the area because Wendie Renard will have an absolute field day clearing those crosses.

Wendie Renard being back in the fold could seriously put a spanner in Arsenal's works.

Much of the Gunners' goal threat comes from crosses into the box.

In the comeback quarter-final win over Real Madrid, all three of their goals were from crosses.

Against Lyon last week, they put 25 crosses into the penalty area but failed to make use of them.

That will be even more difficult today with the aerial presence and experience of Renard.

It's a milestone day for Lyon defender Wendie Renard. She makes her 500th Lyon appearance and features in her 125th Women's Champions League game.

Chelsea

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor, speaking to TNT Sports: "Frustrated about the reuslt and these two games are big learnings for us.

"Barcelona are a really good team but the difference between the teams is not that much. One team has been clinical in both games but my team weren't. The first 30 minutes, we created the first opportunities."

On why her team 'couldn't be themselves': "When you want to play against the best team in Europe you have to be in all aspects of the performance. All of these aspects we were not at our best for different reasons."

"The only positive is in my head it is really clear what we need to do to compete for the Champions League. It is good to have this reflection to help the club grow."

Former Arsenal player Anita Asante says Arsenal have "nothing to lose" in their Women's Champions League semi-final second leg against Lyon.

Arsenal trail 2-1 after losing at the Emirates last Saturday.

Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert , speaking to TNT Sports: "The emotions are quite raw right now. We had a good spell in the first 20 minutes and if you don't score, Barcelona will go up the other end and hurt you. We did start well but we faded.

"They're so clinical. They get three chances and score three goals. Credit to them. That's something going forward we need to improve. We had a few chances in the opening 20 minutes and you've got to take them."

On Sonia Bompastor's half-time message: "For us, it was just about playing with a bit of pride. We're 3-0 down, the tie is lost at that point. Representing Chelsea comes with a weight, a pressure, and an expectation that you're going to play for the badge."

On the rest of Chelsea's season: "We just need to play the rest of the games we've got coming up and remember this hurt. We don't want to feel like that again. We've got two trophies to play for. What bigger incentive than Manchester United in three days?"

It's a lovely, warm afternoon in eastern France where Arsenal need to mount another Champions League comeback to progress to the final.

Melchie Dumornay's late winner at Emirates Stadium last week left the Gunners with an uphill task at the Groupama Stadium against the eight-time champions.

With that Barcelona demolition of Chelsea, are we looking at a repeat of last year's final?

Arsenal will do everything they can to prevent that.

Chelsea captain Millie Bright, speaking to DAZN: "I thought we started the game really well, I thought it was just the final pass. A lack of technical ability and where they're extremely good they have three chances and three goals. We're just not getting that final pass or final touch right. You can't make those mistakes against this sort of opponent. Credit to the team, we never gave in, we fought to the end. Hopefully we'll be back and can be better.

"We're disappointed, we never want to be losing games, nevermind the manner we've lost both games in a competition we want to be winning for the club."

On a domestic treble still being possible: "Everyone's banging on about being unbeaten in the league but it means nothing if you've got nothing to show for it. We've still got a big task ahead of us. We've got to pick ourselves up and go again."

We have to put it into context – this is Bompastor’s first season at a new club, trying to implement her philosophy and identity on a new team. She’s got players that she has inherited from Emma Hayes.

I don’t think you can discount what she has been able to do in a relatively short period of time. It’s the standard, the level Chelsea has been accustomed to. This is just that one empty shelf in that trophy cabinet that is just aching to be filled.

It will be disappointing but I don’t think the season will be a failure because of this.
