Locals Sandra and Wessel are here in Zandvoort for the third time. The pair say the Dutch Grand Prix is a great race to come to. “It’s so close to home, we’re pretty sad it’s going away,” says Wessel.

A Max Verstappen win would be the dream outcome. “He can do anything,” adds Wessel. But another driver the two want to succeed today is Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar. “It would be so good if Hadjar could get a podium, like Nico Hulkenberg at Silverstone,” says Sandra.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen starts in third. He said: "It was a bit tricky in the middle but I'm very happy we could turn it around in qualifying.

"I feel a little bit more confident for today, I'm definitely targeting a podium, that would be nice in front of my home crowd."

On getting the fastest middle sector: "It's of course nice but you need to be quick over the whole lap, we will see.

"I hope that we can just have a strong race and not look back to much, and just try to look ahead."

The paddock was buzzing with activity just before midday here in Zandvoort. Racing Bulls team boss Laurent Mekies was here, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was stood around chatting for ages while photographers snapped his photo.

Brits Shaun and Tessa were also there. Shaun works on the digital side of fan engagement for F1 and said the rise in the number of fans now following the sport is “insane”.

“Teams like McLaren are really pulling in the younger fans, as well as F1 Academy,” Shaun adds. “The female demographic now is so good.”

Shaun’s girlfriend Tessa is a first-time paddock visitor. “I absolutely love it!” She said. “It’s just so cool being this close.”

Hello! Welcome along to our coverage of the penultimate Dutch Grand Prix.

The race drops off the calendar next year so let's savour it while we have it, and there could be a new winner of the race this year as Oscar Piastri sits in the prime position to take the victory.

But alongside him on the front row is title rival and McLaren team-mate Lando Norris, who will be desperate not to let Piastri's nine-point championship lead increase.

Since the Dutch Grand Prix returned to the calendar in 2021, the pole sitter has gone on to win the race.

Max Verstappen did it three times and Lando Norris did it last year.

Today it is Oscar Piastri who has pole position. Will he continue the trend today?
