The kookaburra ball didn't quite have it all its own way with a win for Surrey in Division One and victory for Northamptonshire in Division Two.

Kent pulled it out of the fire at Lancashire while Gloucestershire and Derbyshire can both claim to have had the better of things at Bristol.

But the fact remains seven of the nine games ended in draws which no doubt will cause a lot of debate among county staff and supporters about the use of the kookaburra.

You can read all the details here and check out the tables but we are back on Sunday with another round of Championship action.

  2. GLOUCESTERSHIRE DRAW WITH DERBYSHIREpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 25 June
    Breaking

Anuj Dal leaves a wide delivery from Graeme van Buuren and that is that.

Both sides will feel they had chances to win, especially Derbyshire, who were 177-0 at one stage this afternoon chasing 316.

  3. Postpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 25 June

    Derbyshire 296-8 (target 316) v Gloucs

    Two more solid defensive blocks.

    Two balls left.

  4. Postpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 25 June

    Derbyshire 296-8 (target 316) v Gloucs

Two dots to start the over.

    Derbyshire are nearly there...

  5. Six balls to go...published at 18:20 British Summer Time 25 June

    Derbyshire 296-8 (target 316) v Gloucs

Anuj Dal defends calmly before taking a single off the fifth delivery.

Ben Aitchison safely navigates it, meaning Graeme van Buuren needs to take two wickets from the final six deliveries if Gloucestershire are to win.

Everyone is crowded around the bat - a wonderful sight.

  6. Postpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 25 June

    Derbyshire 295-8 (target 316) v Gloucs

    Wow.

Ben Aitchison leaves a very straight delivery from Graeme van Buuren that shaves off stump, before then getting a thick outside edge to the final ball of the over that flies past the outstretched hand of second slip.

Todd Murphy will bowl the penultimate set of six.

  7. Postpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 25 June

    Derbyshire 290-8 (target 316) v Gloucs

Derbyshire appear to have shut up shop and abandoned all hope of victory against Gloucestershire.

Anuj Dal and Ben Aitchison take just two runs from Todd Murphy's over.

They need 26 to win from the final three overs of the day, but that is moot at this stage.

The more significant statistic is that Gloucestershire need two wickets.

  8. LANCASHIRE DRAW WITH KENTpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 25 June
    Breaking

    Lancs 639-9d v Kent 374 & 328-8

At 116-7 early in the afternoon session with Kent still 146 runs behind this one seemed to be all but over.

But two special innings from Grant Stewart (130) and Joey Evison (77*) in which they shared an eighth wicket partnership of 182, helped the visitors somehow prevent a fifth successive defeat.

Lancashire will wonder how they didn't manage to take the final three wickets and their wait for a red-ball win this season goes on.

  9. Postpublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 25 June

Lancs v Kent 320-8 (lead by 55 runs)

    Five overs remain.

Lancashire need two wickets but if they do it in this over they would require 56 runs from two overs.

    Kent are almost safe.

Lewis McManus slog sweeps Luke Hollman away for four to seal a brilliant victory over Middlesex.

Luke Procter and James Sales both made superb hundreds to lead the home side's chase, with Justin Broad in with McManus at the end.

It's just their second win of the season in the four-day format.

  11. Postpublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 25 June

Lancs v Kent 316-8 (lead by 51 runs)

Wes Agar hit Tom Bailey for a four in that previous over.

    The lead goes beyond 50.

    Six overs remain.

    Lloyd lbw b Van Buuren 9 (Derbyshire 283-8 - target 316)

    Graeme van Buuren strikes again!

He traps David Lloyd bang in front and that's salmon trout.

Gloucestershire need two more wickets, while Derbyshire need 33 more runs. Whoever wins this, it's been a brilliant match.

  13. Postpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 25 June

Lancs v Kent 312-8 (lead by 47 runs)

    Another over ticks by.

We have seven remaining but I will keep reminding you, two would come off for the change in innings so it looks all but over.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 25 June

    Sales c Higgins b Robson 108 (Northants 299-6 - target 311)

James Sales falls for a wonderful 108 as he nicks Sam Robson's leg spin to slip.

Surely Northants can't find a way to lose from here?

  15. Postpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 25 June

Lancs v Kent 311-8 (lead by 46 runs)

We have eight overs remaining in the day but even if Lancashire were to take two quick wickets you have to take off two overs for the change in innings.

This has been a special rearguard action from Kent.

  16. wicket

    Zaib c Helm b Hollman 17 (Northants 299-5 - target 316)

Saif Zaib tries to clear the ropes with victory in sight, but he can only pick out Tom Helm on the midwicket boundary.

Lewis McManus joins James Sales in the middle.

  17. 6 runs

Nine overs leftpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 25 June

    Lancs v Kent 308-8 (lead by 43)

Six and almost out for Wes Agar.

The Australian boshes fellow countryman Chris Green for a straight six, but then spoons the next ball straight up.

It just evades the diving fielder.

James Anderson to continue, Lancashire need some magic you feel...

  18. Postpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 25 June

    Northants 298-4 (target 311) v Middlesex

Saif Zaib and James Sales take 10 from Sam Robson's latest over without really having to break into a sweat.

Northants need just 13 more to win. Start the car.

  19. 10 overs to gopublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 25 June

    Lancs v Kent 300-8 (lead by 35)

James Anderson is steaming in but Joey Evison and Wes Agar see him off.

10 overs left - the lead is 35.

How quickly do Lancashire need these last two wickets? In the next couple of overs I'd suggest.

They won't want to be chasing at more than 10 an over.

  20. wicket

    Chappell c Phillips b Van Buuren 13 (Derbyshire 271-7 - target 316)

Graeme van Buuren celebratesImage source, Gloucestershire Cricket

Gloucestershire move a step closer to what would be an incredible win.

Zak Chappell picks out Joe Phillips at midwicket and he throws his head back in disgust.

Graeme van Buuren has three wickets and the home side need three more to win, with Derbyshire still 45 runs away.

David Lloyd comes out to bat with a runner - that's always fun...
