  1. 'Use of Kookaburra ball a head scratcher'published at 17:44 British Summer Time

    Result: Sussex draw with Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham’s game at home to Sussex ended in an inevitable draw, with all life seemingly sucked out of the occasion by a slow track and an Australian ball I feel is not best suited to County Championship cricket.

Sussex were on 322-6 and leading by 356 when the draw was agreed at 16:50 BST. By then Danial Ibrahim had faced 315 balls for his 121 not out. And while he will remember this game for a long time to come, I don't think many others will.

Durham take 13 points from the game and Sussex 14.

There are three more rounds of matches with this Kookaburra ball this year. Only one side has managed a win this week and that’s about the norm when it is used.

Why ask Championship players to use it, when 99% of them won't be in Australia this winter anyway? And while the Test side is in action at the same time? It's a head scratcher.

    Well batted James Sales.

The Northants right-hander goes to his third first-class hundred with four tickled down to fine-leg.

A fantastic knock that receives deserved applause from the home supporters.

The 22-year-old is taking his team to victory against Middlesex - 28 more runs needed.

  3. WARWICKSHIRE DRAW WITH SOMERSETpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time

    Warwickshire 351 & 161-4 v Somerset 498 & 229-8 dec

    Hands shaken at Edgbaston.

Somerset take 14 points and Warwickshire 11.

Somerset were on top for large periods but their five missed chances across days two and three particularly cost them pushing for a win as Warwickshire narrowly passed the follow on target.

Sam Hain finishes 68* with Ed Barnard 11* in that 30-run partnership.

The home side fall 216 runs short with 78 balls remaining.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:34 British Summer Time

    Stewart c Bailey b Anderson 130 (Lancs v Kent 298-8)

    Jimmy makes the breakthrough!

Grant Stewart pops a catch up to Tom Bailey at cover and his magnificent innings ends.

130 off 122 balls with 12 fours and nine sixes.

Kent are 33 in front with 12 and a bit overs remaining. Can James Anderson finish this innings quickly so Lancashire can have a go at knocking off the runs?

    Thomson c Hammond b Van Buuren 10 (Derbyshire 253-6 - target 316)

What on earth are Derbyshire doing?

Alex Thomson attempts to sweep Graeme van Buuren, but only gets a top edge which pops up to the safe hands of Miles Hammond at slip.

Gloucestershire are cock-a-hoop. They need four more wickets; Derbyshire need 63 more runs.

  7. The last hour commencespublished at 17:27 British Summer Time

    Warwickshire 154-4 (target 377) v Somerset

16 overs minimum to be bowled in this final hour, but Jack Leach is back so expect Somerset to try and bowl more if Warwickshire allow them to.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:27 British Summer Time

    Robinson c Geddes b Roland-Jones 17 (Northants 264-4 - target 311)

Tim Robinson plays a bizarre shot to Toby Roland-Jones.

Trying to go down the ground, he plinks it straight to mid-off.

Northants still require 47 more runs, but with James Sales unbeaten on 90, they should get there comfortably.

    Lancs v Kent 292-7 (lead by 27)

James Anderson appealsImage source, Rex Features

Grant Stewart is even carting James Anderson around.

He biffs him down the ground then smacks the England legend through cover.

Stewart is on 128 off 114 balls. He's turned the game on its head.

  10. Name for this field set?!published at 17:18 British Summer Time

    Warwickshire 152-4 (target 377) v Somerset

Matt Henry is going to have a potentially final burst from the City End with a cracking umbrella field.

Well call it what you want, it is... unusual.

  11. Postpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time

    Lancashire v Kent 282-7 (lead by 17)

Nothing doing for James Anderson in that over as he concedes a couple through the off side.

Grant Stewart is up to 118 - NINE sixes in there!

  12. Anderson back into the attackpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time

    Lancashire v Kent 280-7 (lead by 15)

He's only bowled four overs in this innings, but Lancashire need a wicket. They turn to James Anderson...

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time

    Guest c Bracey b Van Buuren 22 (Derbyshire 235-5 target 316)

    Derbyshire are in real bother!

Brooke Guest prods at one from Graeme van Buuren and feathers it through to the gloves of wicketkeeper James Bracey.

Having looked certain victors, they have now lost five wickets for 58 runs.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time

    Procter b Robson 107 (Northants 239-3 - target 311)

Sam Robson's leg spin removes Luke Procter, but the bulk of the work has been done for Northamptonshire.

They need 72 more to win and Tim Robinson joins James Sales in the middle.

  15. 50 runs

50 for Sam Hainpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time

    Warwickshire 135-4 (target 377) v Somerset

Amidst that wicket drama I nearly forgot Sam Hain had been on 49 for a fair while now.

Half-centuries in both innings of this game (78 first time around) for the Hong Kong born Aussie-turned Midlander.

They will not shake hands now but there are only 22 overs (technically minimum but likely) remaining in this match.

  16. Kent move into the leadpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time

    Lancs 639-9d v Kent 374 & 266-7

    From 116-7 to 266-7.

Lancashire will have to bat again if they can get these three wickets.

We have 21.5 overs remaining in the day.

It's also the 150 partnership between Joey Evison and Grant Stewart.

    Incredible.

  17. wicket

Postpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time

    Warwickshire 131-4 (target 377) v Somerset

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

I do not think Sam Hain is particularly impressed with that shot.

Jacob Bethell has left the door open here, he tried one shot too many.

There is times when you play your shots and times when you play for your team, he has not done the right thing there.

There is a tail in this Bears side, the game is alive again now.

    Miggy Pretorius deserved that wicket.

  18. LEICESTERSHIRE DRAW WITH GLAMORGANpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time
    Breaking

    Leics 576-7 dec v Glamorgan 353 & 342-6

Division Two leaders Leicestershire stay unbeaten but it's taken a mammoth effort from Glamorgan's batters to prevent them from winning a sixth game in eight matches.

Centuries from Sam Northeast and Colin Ingram frustrated the Foxes and their fourth-wicket stand of 225 removed any real victory chance for the hosts at Grace Road.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time

    Bethell b Pretorius c Abell 12 (Warwickshire 131-4 (target 377) v Somerset

Jacob Bethell what are you doing!?

Game to save, seven minutes before they could shake hands and his side have the draw saved, but having just pulled Miggy Pretorius for four he plays a ridiculous shot spooning the ball miles into the air for Tom Abell to jog in and catch.

Bethell bounced out in both innings and now I think Somerset will fancy taking this the distance, they are sniffing a win here again now.

Grant Stewart batting for Kent at LancashireImage source, Rex Features

Brilliant, just brilliant from Grant Stewart.

He came in at 116-7 and has given Kent a real chance of saving this one.

It's a third first-class century and comes up from 79 balls with nine fours and eight sixes.

    Kent trail by six runs.
