Women's 100m gold medallist Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria tells BBC Sport: "I am so excited right now! A new season's best and win. I'm happy I was able to put on a show. I executed it and stayed patient like my coach said I should and after 70 metres it just felt easy! I still have the 200m and the long jump and I'm looking forward to both of those events now."

Having only relatively recently turned her sights to sprinting and with only 25 years on the clock, this might be a sight that we get increasingly accustomed to. Blessing Okagbare will also go in the 200m and you would be a very brave punter to bet against her bagging the sprint double.

"It must be wonderful to stand on the podium with a gold medal around your neck and your sister around your arm." Australia's Cate Campbell spends a special family moment with her sister Bronte, who claimed the silver medal in the women's 100m freestyle. Jameson's sister Helen was a member of the silver-medal winning British women's 4×100m medley relay team at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow.

"It was all about technique. Blessing Okagbare kept the shoulders down and those arms driving. Veronica Campbell-Brown couldn't get the half-metre she needed to put her under any pressure. And what a performance from Asha Phillip - doing your best run, a personal best, on the biggest stage. Fantastic."

"It was an emphatic time and an emphatic victory from Belssing Okagbare. It was a near perfect run from. Credit to Asha Philip who got a new personal best in a high quality field."

There was only one winner from 70m.

Veronica Campbell-Brown made up some of the ground after Blessing Okagbare's fast start but saw the Nigerian stretch away from her as she hit full stride.

A winning time of 10.85 seconds is a new Games record.

Right, down to women's 100m final business.

Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare is relaxed enough to share a smile and a joke with the young lady in charge of looking after her kit.

Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica plays it a little cooler, blowing a kiss to the crowd as her name is announced.

England's Bianca Williams, 20, will be picking up experience rather than medals. Compatriot Asha Phillip, in lane eight, would be a shock medallist.

This is your 20-minute warning for the men's 100m final.

No Bolt, no Blake, but barrowloads of intrigue.

England's Adam Gemili has a prime lane draw in four but the man outside him, Jamaica's Kemar Bailey-Cole, with a qualifying time of 10 seconds flat and a personal best of 9.93 is ahead in the betting.

Jamaican champion Nickel Ashmeade has only himself to blame for a dog of a draw out in lane eight, but could come through.

"That is the worst finish I've seen at a major event to win a gold medal for a while. It was like a splat." South Africa's Chad le Clos wins the men's 100m butterfly despite an ugly lunge for the finishing wall.

South Africa's Chad le Clos caps a breathtaking night of action at Tollcross International Swimming Centre by claiming gold in the last race of the night.

There's a bronze for England in the shape of 21-year-old Adam Barrett, while Singapore win their first medal in the pool as 19-year-old Joseph Schooling clinches silver.

The time clocked by Le Clos - 51.29secs - is a Games record. Barrett finishes in a time of 51.93secs.

Number 35: David Beattie - Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland's David Beattie, a silver medallist at Delhi 2010 and Melbourne 2006, joined the #71club on his 61st birthday - on terrain he knew well.

Beattie is a trap shooter now but previously spent many years in Army training on the Ministry of Defence land that now forms Carnoustie's Commonwealth shooting venue.

"We did battle camps here," he told me, surveying the fields between the ranges. "This brings back some memories - some good, some not so good, believe you me. It's not so nice here when you're in the grass, it's raining and you're crawling through muck and dirt."

Hear more from David on Tonight at the Games, from 22:40 BST on BBC One.

"Just as well the race was 100 metres. Another metre and gold would have gone to her sister." Australia's Cate Campbell went out too fast in her quest for a new 100m freestyle world record and was nearly caught by her sister Bronte.

Emma McKeon finishes third, England's Fran Halsall, who finishes in a time of 53.99secs, is forced to settle for fourth spot.

We are just under 15 minutes away from the women's 100m final.

It looks like Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare taking on the best of Jamaica for the medals.

The 25-year-old is in lane five with Kerron Stewart and Veronica Campbell-Brown inside her and Schillonie Calvert on the outside.

The diminutive figure of Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won't be in the blocks. Hampered by injury and struggling for form this year, she is only running in the relay.

Three events completed and leading the standings is Damian Warner of Canada with England's John Lane and Grenada's Kurt Felix in closest pursuit.

Warner has pedigree. He finished fifth at London 2012 and third at the 2013 World Championships.

    Standings:

    1. D Warner (Can) 3458 points

    2. J Lane (Eng) 3391 points

"I look forward to competing with Adam more often. He's giving the old man a chase for his money. I remember the days when I was young and he's fired me up. I've been complacent in the last two years."
