"Richard Thompson has looked out of sorts from the word go. He doesn't look like the man who has run as quick as he has this year. Kemar Bailey-Cole is a tall guy, but he has a nice style and will be a danger in the final."

  4. Athleticspublished at 19:54 British Summer Time 28 July 2014

Jamaica's Kemar Bailey Cole takes the express route to the final, winning the third semi-final in 10.00 seconds, the fastest time of any of those through to the gold-medal race.

St Kitts and Nevis' Antoine Adams beats Richard Thompson with a well-timed dip for a time of 10.18 seconds.

Thompson, who ran 9.82 seconds earlier this year, just has not come to the party at all and misses the final.

Richard Kilty of England is down in sixth in a time of 10.27.

England sprinter Adam Gemili tells BBC Sport after reaching the 100m final: "I just need to recover between now and the final. I made it a bit harder for myself with the start I had but I came through. I try to relax as much as I can. I like to enjoy the crowd but as soon as I get on the blocks I just get my focus."

The third and final semi-final features two-time Olympic silver medallist Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago as well as England's world indoor champion Richard Kilty and Jamaican Kemar Bailey-Cole.

    Colin Jackson
Two-time CWG champion and BBC Sport athletics pundit

"Adam Gemili is one of the athletes who absorbs the energy from the crowd and he's certainly done that. The question is he can he find an extra gear when it comes to the final."

Huge reception for Scotland's women as they leave the arena in third place in the team final standings at the end of their first day session.

They have 76.031 from their two pieces of apparatus, with the other two to follow tomorrow. Wales currently lead with 81.398, but it's now England's turn and with European champion Becky Downie in their line-up, they are amongst the event favourites.

  16. Athleticspublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 28 July 2014

Jamaican champion Nickel Ashmeade left himself a lot to do and only just met the deadline, sneaking second behind Bahamas' Warren Fraser. Both men are given the same time - 10.21 seconds.

Keston Bledman of Trinidad and Tobago was third in 10.24 with England's Harry Aikines Aryeetey in fourth in 10.25. Both will need a favour from the clock.

"That was a very odd semi-final. We were expecting fireworks and people to really push on, but no-one did."

  18. Athleticspublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 28 July 2014

England's Harry Aikines-Aryeetey will go in the first of the men's heats with Jamaica's Nickel Ashmeade outside him.

  19. Athleticspublished at 19:33 British Summer Time 28 July 2014

    Michael Johnson
BBC Sport athletics expert & 400m world record holder

"I think Adam Gemili will need to turn it up tonight. I was encouraged by his comments after the heats that he knows he will have to improve. A lot of the guys were sluggish and know they need to get better tonight. It's not a case of conserving energy for races really, they just needed to blow the cobwebs away yesterday.

"I am excited about the final because it's evenly matched and there's no clear favourite. Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago has the quickest time but I'm not completely convinced by him. The Jamaicans are bound to be in the mix but Adam Gemili has as good a chance as anyone."
