Right, Australia's Stephanie Morton is into the women's sprint final. But who will join her?

England's Jessica Varnish is 1-0 down to Anna Meares in the second semi-final. Defeat for Varnish in this next one would be curtains.

10km scratch bronze medallist Elinor Barker of Wales tells BBC Sport: "I didn't think my position was perfect, but I managed to weasel my way near the front.

"I was close to not getting a medal so I celebrated like I'd won it! Personally for me it's a proud moment because my parents are here to watch me and they hardly ever get to watch me race."

"Australia popped out from the top of the peloton and Annette Edmondson got her tactics right. Elinor Barker of Wales just managed to sneak her way into a bronze. It was a great ride by Scotland's Katie Archibald but she was just edged out for a medal. She was in a great position but just ran out of legs."

England's Dani King is the first rider outside of the podium places with Scotland's Katie Archibald in fifth.

"Just spoken with Zoe Smith's mum, Niki, who admits she is a "little nervous" but trying to stay calm for her daughter.

"The crowd are playing their part in keeping the athletes 'pumped' but it's going to be the coolest weightlifter who lands the gold today.

"Michaela Breeze really needed that lead from the 'snatch' phase because Zoe Smith is traditionally stronger in the 'clean & jerk'.

"Incredible to see these two athletes go head-to-head, Breeze at her best despite retiring after Delhi and Smith has been hampered with chronic back problems."

Four laps to go. England's Laura Trott and Dani King are together and just off the front.

The first attack of the scratch race comes from Jasmin Glaesser, but is reeled in soon after by the peloton.

It is a crowd scene at the moment with the teams massing at the front, using the width of the bends to get in position. We could have a mass sprint for the line if it keeps on like this. Six laps to go.

"Nobody wants to commit to this yet and put any pressure on in this scratch. It's all lining up for a big sprint finish. Danielle King is just holding herself back ready waiting for the chance."

"You have to read the scratch race well. If someone attacks, you have to chase it down and then prepare a good launch with two-and-a-half laps to go."

Right, we are still all together in the scratch race final but the pace is starting to boil and bubble. Each rider dutifully doing their stint at the front before peeling up and back to start again.

We have just gone though the half way point.

At the end of the snatch phase in the women's 58kg competition England's Zoe Smith has managed a best of 92kg but Wales's Michaela Breeze goes 1kg better with 93kg - both setting Games records - and she has the edge going into the clean and jerk. Nigeria's Nididi Winifred looked to have successfully lifted 95kg but it was deemed a no-lift and she is third on 90kg.

"The are different tactics to win the 10k scratch; hold it together for a sprint at the end or aim to lap at a steadier pace."

  16. Track Cyclingpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 26 July 2014

We are away in the scratch race. More people-watching than on an Ibiza beach as the riders eye each other, checking who might be fresh and fit enough to hook up for a romantic break off the front.

She might not be a medal contender, but just to be involved in the 10km scratch race will count as a victory for Scotland's Charline Joiner.

The 24-year-old from Dunfermline broke her back during a training crash in Spain in early January and spent eight days in hospital. Yet somehow she has managed to regain her fitness to take to the track at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome today.

    Top marks.
