Welsh gymnast Frankie Jones, who won her country's first gold of the Commonwealth Games in the rhythmic gymnastics ribbon event earlier today, speaking on BBC One: "It is beyond words. I have had the most amazing few days, I literally can't believe that we just got to have the Welsh flag flying - it is phenomenal, I am so proud of myself.

"Everybody who supported me to get here - Sport Wales, Welsh Gymnastics, my coaches - they have been here every step of the way and I would not be here today without all of them."

Wales have taken a bit of a beasting at the hands of Australia. The final scoreline is a lop-sided 7-1 with Dan Kyriakides scoring the only Wales goal. Indeed it was one of only two shots on goal from Wales.

    Australia had 37.

"For the next couple of hours it's going to be all about weightlifting's 'Battle of Britain' as two-time Commonwealth champion Michaela Breeze takes on England's European medallist Zoe Smith in -58kg division.

"Breeze retired after Delhi 2010, but announced her return to the sport last year and takes on the rising star of the sport who set a new British record total of 221kg at the London Olympics."

Explaining why he is only competing in the 4x100m relay and not in the individual 100m or 200m, Usain Bolt says: "I didn't want to take anyone's spot as I didn't get to go to the trials because I was injured.

"The injury has completely healed and I have trained a lot over the last month and I'm in pretty good shape. I'm just taking my time, but I don't want to push myself too much and get injured again.

"I told my coach I wanted to come here. I live for the fans and, when I go on the track, I want the crowd to enjoy my performance. I'm going to try and put on a show for the fans."

It is tight at the top. The day began with a proper Albion v Aussie dust-up in the netball and the fight to top the medal table looks just as fierce.

More from England's record-equalling Mick Gault after his 18th Commonwealth Games medal, a bronze in the 10m air pistol. The 60-year-old can break the record in Monday's 50m air pistol event.

"It's job done, finished," Gault says on BBC One. "I don't care any more, I've got the record and the free pistol coming up in a few days is a bonus. I don't mind sharing the record with some old Australian.

"I feel good that a 60-year-old can achieve this and it's for my wife and kids, because the stress we go through is tremendous. I made a deal with my wife a long time ago that this was my last games, because this was unfinished business. I can put my feet up now and get the slippers out."

There is no seeding in the boxing preliminaries which means you can have two of the favourites slugging it out before most of their rivals have even laced up their gloves.

The meeting between Wales's Joseph Cordina and England's Pat McCormack was one of those in the men's lightweight category.

The pair train together, have sparred many time and will doubtless re-analyse today's meeting several times over.

Cordina edged a tight contest to claim the bragging rights.

Jam-packed at the Usain Bolt press conference. Photographers snapping, cameramen filming, journalists questioning. Bolt, just his laid-back self and smiling. "Yes, I'm here to run. I'll be running. Definitely," he assures everyone. And everyone nervously laughs.

Question after question. Usain Bolt, unfazed, answers every one. He says he's keen to watch the Reggae Girls in the netball at some point this week. He also reveals he will be staying in the athletes' village. And, once again, says he wants to play for Manchester United.

Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, has arrived in Glasgow and has been speaking at a news conference. He is not competing in the individual sprint events, but is part of Jamaica's 4x100m sprint relay team.

"I've always wanted to compete in a Commonwealth Games," said Bolt. "The first one in Australia, I strained my hamstring so couldn't compete, and the second one in India was late in the year and that was a bad time for me before the World Championships."

"If I'm going to find athletes from all 71 nations and territories, I have to track down Muhammad I'maadi Abd Aziz (pictured second from right). He's a track cyclist and the only Brunei athlete in Glasgow - he's a one-man team.

"Coming from the swimming (nine athletes, much success), I burst into the velodrome just as the session ended and the last man left inside was Brunei's coach. He told me was thrilled that his man had qualified for tonight's points race final and yes, of course, I could have an interview then.

"Alas - I got back upstairs to be handed a results sheet, and this sheet now suggests Brunei did not qualify for the final, contrary to the coach's interpretation. My lone Brunei athlete may not even be in the building tonight, never mind free for interview..."

Wales are battling hard against the world number one side but the difference of 30 ranking places is clear as Australia go in three goals up at the break, and it took a good save from David Kettle on the whistle to prevent it being four.

"Wales have been under a lot of pressure but their defence has played quite well," says former GB Olympic champion Sean Kerly. "This Australia side is something to watch."

  19. Silver Medalpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 26 July 2014

Scotland's Robert Conway and Irene Edgar found South Africa's Gwen Nel and Herman Scholtz too strong in the mixed B2/B3 pairs events for bowlers with visual impairments.

The South Africans led throughout but Conway had a chance to win gold with the last shot of the match. However, he missed the target to leave South Africa 14-10 winners.
