St Lucia's Levern Spencer, who won bronze at Delhi 2010, fails in her second attempt at 1.96m - which means England's Isobel Pooley takes silver. The new Commonwealth champion is 18-year-old Australian Eleanor Patterson.

  2. Divingpublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 1 August 2014

England's Tom Daley and James Denny are due to be first up at 19:19 as the 20-year-olds compete together for the first time. They are followed by Australia, Malaysia and Canada. Only four pairs in the hunt for medals so just gold and silver up for grabs.

Isobel Pooley encourages the crowd behind her to clap their hands high in the air - like a wedding party DJ when he spins We Will Rock You - as she goes for a third attempt at 1.94m. The fans respond to the England athlete, but she can't get the better of that dastardly bar. She is certain of a medal after a PB of 1.92m and that will be either silver or bronze.

"Scotland's wait for a Commonwealth medal goes on I'm afraid as Grace Reid slips from second to fifth after the final round of dives. Their last success was back in 1958 when Sir Peter Heatly claimed gold in Swansea. The crowd did their part and there was an audible sigh when Reid slipped down the standings. Next up, it's Tom Daley with new diving partner James Denny."

"Security at the bowls is being handled by Police Scotland. Everyone entering Kelvingrove must empty their pockets, remove belts and go through an airport-style scanner. The officers on duty here right now can be forgiven if they are a little distracted.

"Arbroath's Darren Burnett, who is closing in on men's singles gold, is a serving police officer and had to request special permission from Police Scotland to compete here as all police leave in Scotland is cancelled during the Commonwealth Games."

At the other end of Hampden Park, 13 men are hurling themselves high into the Glasgow air with a bendy stick. Of course, it's the pole vault.

England's Steve Lewis heads the field in terms of personal and seasonal bests. But the Delhi 2010 silver medallist's form has dipped quicker than a Blackpool rollercoaster since May. Team-mate Luke Cutts is the other leading jumper and broke the British indoor record in January. Expect those two to feature prominently.

Hang on. Levern Spencer has pulled a jump out of the bag. She clears 1.92m in her final attempt to move into bronze. Pressure? What pressure.

  10. Gold Medalpublished at 19:03 British Summer Time 1 August 2014

It's all over. Defending champion Jennifer Abel from Canada makes it back-to-back Commonwealth titles, a fantastic achievement.

Heartbreak for Scotland's Grace Reid, who has been squeezed out of the medals and finishes fifth. Tough on the 18-year-old but she can be proud of her efforts.

England's Hannah Starling came seventh. Rebecca Gallantree and Alicia Blagg, who surprised themselves by winning the synchronised title on the 3m springboard, couldn't get involved in the shake up this time, finishing ninth and 10th.

    *Upset alert*

England's Isobel Pooley is ripping apart the field. She eases over 1.92m - a new personal best - in her first attempt to take the lead. But pre-jump favourite Levern Spencer of St Lucia is on the verge of crashing out.

After Ohuruogu smiles and embraces her team-mates, all eyes inside Hampden turn to the scoreboard - will Scotland qualify as a fastest loser? Nope. India's quartet beat their mark of 3:33.91 by a wafer thin 0:00.24. Close but not close enough for the Scots.

England's 400m relay team are in the arena. Few are expecting any problems for Emily Diamond, Shana Cox, Margaret Adeoye and Christine Ohuruogu, who receives an ear-splitting roar as she takes control of the baton. The Olympic 400m champion stretches clear of Nigeria's Ada Benjamin to cross the line first.

"It is so close to flying and it is relieving from schoolwork too," so said Scotland's Grace Reid when asked what it is she likes about diving.

She's flying better than most, and probably won't have to worry about schoolwork for a while if she gets a medal here. With just one round to go, the 18-year-old is in second place and could win a stunning silver.

Australian Maddison Keeney had been leading but stalled on the board ahead of her fourth jump and had to restart. Two points deducted for that and she's down to fifth.

Defending champion Canada's Jennifer Abel is leading, England's Hannah Starling is sixth.

Did someone mention Usain Bolt? I've not heard much about him this week.

Of course, all eyes will be squinting at the giant frame of one man tonight. After a week of controversial (or made-up) comments, depending on whether you believe Bolt or a Times journalist, it's time for the world's fastest man to do his talking on the track. The six-time Olympic champion will see his first action of Glasgow 2014 as part of Jamaica's 4x100m relay team.

"In contrast the rain and chill breeze of Thursday night, conditions at Hampden this evening are nicely conducive to track and field - warm evening sunshine, just a hint of breeze. Usain Bolt may be the main draw - his appearance on the adjacent warm-up track drew the biggest cheer of the night so far - but there are medal chances aplenty for home athletes:

England's Steve Lewis, looking to complete his Commonwealth set with pole vault gold after bronze in Melbourne and silver in Delhi

Tiffany Porter taking on Australia's Olympic champion Sally Pearson in the sprint hurdles final.

Scotland's Lynsey Sharp battling for 800m medals with both England's former World bronze medallist Jenny Meadows and the woman they might one day call the Canvey Coe - 19-year-old Jess Judd."

400m hurdles silver medallist Eilidh Child: "I only had two hours sleep last night and it has been fun to celebrate and enjoy what happened last night.

"I was down by Scotland House and there was a great turnout. I am not quite used to that much attention and it was great to see everyone embracing the Games.

"I have not really had a chance to relax and take it all in. Normally I analyse my races but I haven't had a chance to do that."

Gemma Nicol flies round the track to put Scotland into second place ahead of the final leg. Zoey Clark sets off like a greyhound chasing a rabbit, but pays the price on the final bend as she tires badly. Australia and Trinidad and Tobago zoom past her and the Scots finish fourth. With three qualifying automatically for the final, they face an anxious wait to see if they can sneak in by the backdoor.
