Those two line up in heat one, alongside Scotland's Chris O'Hare and Jake Wightman, England pair Lee Emanuel and Richard Peters, plus Daniel Mooney of Northern Ireland. The first four over the line automatically progress to Saturday's final, with the next four fastest over the two heats also booking their spot. They're off!

Before that little lot, we start on the track with the men's 1500m first round.

Kenya are without the two fastest men on the planet this year - two-time world champion Asbel Kiprop and reigning Commonwealth king Silas Kiplagat. Have Kenya been weakened? Yes. Does that mean they won't win gold? No.

2010 silver medallist James Magut leads the African nation's charge, but he is likely to pushed by New Zealand's 2006 Commonwealth champion Nick Willis.

It is Yorkshire Day and Leeds gymnast Nile Wilson celebrates in style. The 18-year-old takes gold just ahead of England team-mate Kristian Thomas. But heartbreak for Scotland's Frank Baines as he is nudged out of a bronze medal by Kevin Lytwyn of Canada.

England's Kristian Thomas grins as he twists and twirls into second place with a score of 14.966. His Red Rose team-mate Nile Wilson leads, with Scotland's Frank Baines in bronze. Only Canada's Kevin Lytwyn - the last man to go - can stop a British 1-2-3...

Scotland's Michael Jamieson does not sound like he is over his upset at the hands of fellow Scot Ross Murdoch in last Thursday's 200m breaststroke final just yet.

"I really wanted to repay that faith and support of the people," said the Glaswegian.

"It's only natural for your instant reaction to be like you felt you let people down. I'll take some time off and come back stronger. I have to."

Ouch. Dan Keatings has had some great moments in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. This was not one of them.

The Scot, a gold medallist in the pommel horse event and a silver medallist in the all-around and team finals competition, ends up flat on his face after losing his grip when trying to land a move in the horizontal bars final.

He has some guts though, and gets back on to finish his routine. He then limps off and is soon seen with ice packs on both ankles.

It's all over at Scotstoun Sports Campus, and it's bad news for Paul Drinkhall. The Englishman took the fourth game against India's Sharath Kamal Achanta, but a change of bandana helped Achanta to wrest back the momentum, and he duly closed out a 4-1 victory.

Drinkhall fought gamely, but he was outclassed by the third seed, and now he will turn his attention to the mixed doubles final on Saturday, where he and wife Joanna face fellow English pairing Liam Pitchford and Tin-Tin Ho.

"It's nice to know we can make a difference to their lives and help them become better athletes with equipment and kit most nations would take for granted," said founder Alex Mitchell.

"Claudia Fragapane is so special, and so talented. She has a great work ethic. When she's in the gym and something isn't quite right, she looks to her coach to find out how she can do it better and works constantly on it.

"In gymnastics terms she's still a baby but winning four golds will give her so much confidence. They have nicknamed her the 'Pocket Rocket' because she flies and has so much power for her size."
