Peter McGrail had to think a bit more in this contest but he has boxed very well throughout the tournament.

    Hit and move.

He has shown he can box on the outside and the inside and his movement was exceptional.

Walker boxed well in that last round but overall, McGrail was just that little bit better.

Speaking to BBC Sport after his gold medal victory in the men's 56kg, England's Peter McGrail said: "I'm over the moon - that's another one for the collection. I'm just looking forward to bringing the medal home to the family.

"I have medalled at all of the last three majors and I'm in great form leading into Tokyo 2020. I'll be one of the favorites going into that tournament as well."

Asked if it was difficult to carry the favorite tag, McGrail said: "There's no pressure because you believe in yourself and you have to see yourself as the favourite anyway. I'm glad all the hard work has paid off, and now I've got a few days to chill out here."

McCormack v Walshpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 14 April 2018

    Men's 69kg

England’s Pat McCormack has stated that he needs a big 2018 and a Commonwealth gold to “get his name on the map”. He failed to make much of an impression at the Rio Olympics after defeat to Cuba’s Yasniel Toledo in the last 16 and also has two European Championship silvers to his name.

Belfast’s Aidan Walsh qualified for the Games by beating the talented Brett McGinty in the 2017 Ulster Elite Senior welterweight final in November. Post-fight, an emotional Walsh set out what it took to claim that victory. “This isn’t just a one-week training camp, two weeks, three weeks - this is 11 years of blood, sweat, and tears. When my sister won silver in the 2014 Commonwealths, I said ‘mark my words, I’m going to be at the next one with you, we’ll both be there to get the gold medals.”

    Well that's awkward now...

    Hockey: Men's bronze medal match

England go close... but not close enough as India scramble around in their own D to defend a penalty corner before an attacker blazes over into the crowd.

And what a catch from an alert spectator! That got the biggest cheer of the day so far, and saved someone behind them a serious headache.

    It remains 1-1.

    Ah, what a nice touch.

Some schoolchildren have written messages of welcome and support around the basketball arena.

The Friendly Games, the spirit of the Commonwealth, fair play, magnanimity...hang on.

They are not as impartial as they appear at first glance.

    Good luck messages

That is the sort of home advantage and partisan support that England will need to overcome in the women's basketball final,

That gets underway at 11:30 BST with the Aussie Opals the hot favourites.

    Nick Hope
BBC Sport on the Gold Coast

“WHYYYYYYY!?” shouts England’s Alicia Blagg as an error in the penultimate round costs her any chance of challenging for an individual medal here.

The 21-year-old, who did win 3m synchronised silver earlier in the week, has been out-of-sorts in the individual 1m and 3m competitions but, in fairness, is competing at her first major event since Rio 2016.

She took time away to settle into university life out in Miami and also underwent two surgical procedures on her long-term wrist injury which hasn’t entirely solved the problem.

Victory for Kirsty Gilmour as she defeats Canada's Michelle Li 21-11 21-16, and the Scot is absolutely delighted!

It may not be the silver she won four years ago on home soil but winning a medal of any colour is always a brilliant achievement and she'll be happy with that.
