"The Pakistan supporters are leaving quite quickly now. It's as though someone has blown a whistle and said 'everyone out, we're going home'."
A section of seats in the Adelaide Oval have been rapidly vacated after that. The India fans in the crowd take pleasure in waving them goodbye.

"This is a shame because at 102-2, Pakistan were ticking along nicely."
Two go in an over for Pakistan and they've lost 5-22 in this innings. Wahab Riaz's stay lasts just two balls. The first was a boundary, the second an edge through to a gleeful India captain.

"These are soul-destroying moments for lower-order batsmen when they have to go out in a situation like this."

"That's a good catch, he was running backwards and he took it well. The height was marginally OK and Shahid Afridi marches off. For a man with his power, he'll be cross he didn't put that ball away."
Boom Boom Afridi takes a big swing at a full toss from Shami and it's high in to the air out to point. Kohli takes the catch running round and the all-rounder has to go. Umpires pause for a second to see if the ball is above waist height, but they're happy it's legal.

"Misbah, the old war horse, is showing his experience. And there's a little more noise from the Pakistan quarters as a result of those boundaries."
Is this the start of the Pakistan counter-attack? Misbah backs away and smashes Yadav for four through the covers. He picks up another boundary as he whips a full toss off his legs. The public address system announces the crowd is more than 41,500. And they've made some noise it's fair to say.

"The drinks cart is driven off at some speed..."
I remember Franklyn Stephenson in the latter part of his career, playing for Sussex in that classic Natwest final against Warwickshire in 1993. Back in Adelaide, more shuffling of the pack from Dhoni with his bowlers sees Mohammed Shami back on. Pakistan meanwhile choose to take the batting powerplay early. Misbah and Afridi can't force the issue though as the required rate hovers around nine-and-a-half an over. With that, it's time for drinks.

"The best exponent of the slower ball I've seen was Franklyn Stephenson. He'd come bounding in all arms and legs and with a big smile and the ball wouldn't arrive. He had possibly the biggest smile of anybody I've ever known, a lovely man. Chris Cairns had a good slower ball too."
Jadeja comes on to replace Ashwin as Dhoni continues this trial by spin from the Northern End. Just three runs off the over and the required rate continues to climb.

"Afridi is trying to hit the ball too hard, he's trying to wallop it. All he has to do is hit it into the gap and it will gallop along."
The figure of former England coach Duncan Fletcher is seen on television screens looking content in the India changing room. He's in the background behind Ravi Shastri, the man who has assumed more front-of-house coaching duties in the last year or so. His influence has certainly given India an added dimension. Back on the field, Mohit Sharma continues to be precise, conceding just two runs.

"Pakistan's chances are one in a hundred now. It does appear to be India's game. Incidentally, this ground is lovely. It's the first time I've seen it under lights since it's been developed. They've done a great job - you'd be happy to watch all of your cricket here."

India 300-7: Kohli 107, Raina 74, Dhawan 73
India won toss
Ashwin continues to weave his web of spin, getting plenty of turn and bounce out of this pitch. Afridi goes down on one leg and sweeps hard to the square leg boundary for four to keep things moving just a touch.
Mohit Sharma comes on as MS Dhoni mixes up his bowlers here to keep Pakistan guessing. Good stuff from the seam bowler, who varies his pace up and keeps a tight line.
Rakesh Pradhan: It's safe to say now which Pakistan has turned up today. From the brilliance to disaster in a few overs.
Ilyas Najib: Four years ago it was the Tendulkar LBW being overturned, today it's an Akmal edge given, so much for technology improving the game.
Juxtaposed: It is important for cricket in the subcontinent that Pakistan lose this match with their honour intact. Take it to over 49.
