  1. Pak 98-2 (target 301)published at 09:36 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Ah... perhaps MS Dhoni does know about Misbah's fine record against off-spin because he's brought paceman Umesh Yadav into the attack. Television cameras pan to a nervous-looking Pakistan players' balcony. They know that so much depends on their skipper. Shehzad is playing plenty of shots now and he aims a wild swish outside off stump which gets the majority of the crowd excitable.

  3. Pak 97-2 (Shehzad 44, Misbah 4)published at 09:32 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Misbah averages 118.3 against off-spin in the last 10 years. I wonder if MS Dhoni realises this with slow bowling on from both ends? Ravi Jadeja, to be fair, is of the left-arm variety but Pakistan seem happy to milk the bowling and take another five runs.

  5. Pak 92-2 (target 301)published at 09:29 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Pakistan skipper Misbah is the new man to the crease and he's very much needed with his side suffering a touch of the jitters. Ahmed Shehzed is going well though, hitting successive boundaries to knock Ashwin out of his stride. The second one was a big heave over the top and a signal of the opener's intent.

"Good bit of work from Dhoni. The one-bounce throw came in from point and with the dive, Dhoni flicked it off his gloves straight on to the stumps. Despite the big dive, the bat has almost bounced in the air despite it being over the line."

  7. Review - not outpublished at 09:26 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Oh.. drama! India think they've got another wicket when Ahmed Shehzed is caught up in a running-between-the-wickets mishap, but he gets back just in time despite good work from Umesh Yadav in the deep and then wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.

"Excellent piece of bowling. He changed his pace a touch there and found a bit of turn too. Haris Sohail tried to play against the spin to mid-on and it found the edge as he went through the shot."

  9. WICKETpublished at 09:21 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

The noise which greets this wicket is almost deafening. Pakistan looked to be gaining control, but Ravichandran Ashwin strikes an important blow when he spins one away from the left-handed Haris Sohail who pokes out his bat and Suresh Raina takes a straightforward catch at first slip.

  10. Pak 72-1 (Shehzad 30, Haris 36)published at 09:19 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Slow bowling from both ends now, with Ravindra Jadeja's left-arm darts being employed. Haris Sohail trades his helmet for a hat and he and his batting partner manipulate the strike with four singles and a boundary. Ticking along nicely.

    "It's bubbling up nicely.

"For the first time, it the Pakistan fans that can be most clearly heard, dancing with all the energy of a latecomer to a party at the top of the Fos Williams Stand.

"Before you ask, I have no idea who Fos Williams is.

"The India fans are in their seats, in a small section that represents perhaps 5% of the ground, Pakistan flags are being waved with gusto."

  12. Pak 72-1 (target 301)published at 09:14 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

There's a bit of excitement brewing in the Pakistani-populated part of the ground. Is this the day they finally beat India in a World Cup match? Another over from Ashwin brings five singles. Drinks.

South Africa captain AB de Villiers: "We are happy with a winning start. Zimbabwe played some really good cricket and they put us under a lot of pressure, especially with the ball in the opening 15 overs."

  16. Pak 67-1 (Mohit 5-0-21-0)published at 09:11 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

The Adelaide Oval's floodlights are burning brightly now as they take over from the natural light. It all adds to this sense of occasion which is emanating from every single feature of this match. It couldn't be more handily poised, with Ahmed Shehzad and Haris Sohail bringing up their half-century partnership after that early loss of Younus Khan. Shehzad appears to have decided to take on the bowling as he plunders four through mid-off then bags a couple through a similar area.

"This is based purely on the anecdotal evidence of my own eyes, but I'd say that there are a lot more women here than your average cricket match. There are certainly more prams and small children than I've seen before. It's a family event, more evidence that rivalry doesn't have to mean hostility."

  18. Pak 58-1 (Shehzad 20, Haris 25)published at 09:04 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

The wily Ravichandran Ashwin is summoned by MS Dhoni, and five dots are followed by a single. A very quick over.

  20. Pak 57-1 (target 301)published at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Ahmed Shehzad has kept his powder dry until now... and the blue touch paper is lit when he comes down the track to Mohit Sharma and biffs him through mid-wicket for four. The bowler responds with a pacey yorker which is inches away from rearranging the dancing batsman's timbers. Five more taken from the target.
