"That's the beauty of batting first. He's had a good first over - if you're batting second and there's a big total you're more nervous as you feel you've got to chase. It's a different mindset when you're chasing."

  2. Eng 1-0 (Eng won toss)published at 01:05 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2015

Tim Southee opens the bowling for New Zealand and there's signs of early away swing for the right-arm seamer. Umpire Paul Reiffel calls a wide on the third ball as one shapes away just too far. Ian Bell opens the face to one which runs along the ground and is snaffled by the slip cordon. That's the only ball Bell offers a shot at in a pretty tight start.

"You've got to have confidence and conviction in your batting. England have got to go out and do their job and bat New Zealand out the game."

Cracking renditions of both anthems there before the theme tune for this World Cup breaks out over the loud speakers.

It's a bit of a catchy number, which I've found myself humming a few times already and we're only six days in to the tournament.

No idea what it's called though.

Brendon McCullum gets his men in to a huddle as Moeen Ali and Ian Bell make their way out to the crease.

"We need a win, we need a confidence boost. We have some good players for England but they haven't played well as a team. They've been up and down but if they click they can challenge any team."

Word is organisers are expecting a sell-out crowd in the region of 42,000 in Wellington. That will be the first time an international cricket fixture has had a full house at a ground which is also used for both codes of rugby and football.

Both teams are out on the pitch for the anthems. God Save The Queen is followed by God Defend New Zealand.

It looks like a clear and warm day.

"The front page of the local newspaper welcomes England on a warm, sunny morning in Wellington. The 'thirsty' nature of England's fans is seen as a big boost to the local economy. No sign of that kind of behaviour yet, but there are plenty of England shirts in the capital."
