Football, rugby union and darts have had their fair share of ding-dong clashes between England and Scotland over the ages, but cricket has yet to write its own chapter in the Battle of Britain sporting almanac.

  8. Captain's quotespublished at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

England captain Eoin Morgan: "It has not the ideal start to the campaign but this is a chance for us to get started.

"I would have bowled first but the wicket looks good, so we don't mind batting first. The balance of our side and the chance for players to put a performance under the belt is the most important thing. It is a strong side we have put out and a chance for us to turn things around."

  9. Scotland changespublished at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

Two changes for the Scots, batsman Freddie Coleman and Alasdair Evans replace Hamish Gardiner and Rob Taylor. Saving them for the big one? Freddie's average needs a bit of work though. It's only 12 so far. All-rounder Evans has only played eight ODIS and has five wickets with a best of 2-34.

  10. Captain's quotespublished at 21:35 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

Scotland captain Preston Mommsen: "This is where we qualified for the World Cup so we are happy to be here. He [Paul Collingwood] has been hugely influential and knows the England players so he has been very valuable.

"The wicket should play well but we may get some swing early on. It is always nice to be playing the neighbours. They have not had the best start so hopefully we can put them under pressure early on."

The Scots pushed New Zealand considerably closer than England did in their one match so far, recovering from 12-4 to lose by only three wickets in the end. They are unbeaten in their two previous ODIs here. Their opener Calum MacLeod has made the highest score on the ground, a superb 175 against Canada last year. They're almost favourites aren't they?

England have the worst net run-rate of any team in the competition and their paltry total in the last game was overhauled in 12.3 overs by New Zealand. In the last few years they have lost twice in the World Twenty20 to the Netherlands and in the last World Cup were beaten by Ireland. Could they lose to Scotland tonight?

You're very welcome to our coverage of England v Scotland from the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
