Captain Mohammad Tauqir is the new batsman - he can only defend his first ball, so Sorensen finishes with 2-60 from 10. Who will bowl the last over, I wonder?

"He takes off his helmet, takes off his gloves, and he was just about to raise his bat, but captain Mohammad Tauqir stepped in to shake his hand and congratulate him on the knock of his life."

Sorensen to bowl the penultimate over - and Anwar's glorious innings is ended when he gets a top edge high into the Queensland sky and keeper Gary Wilson just has to move to his right to take the catch.

A big ovation for only the UAE's second ODI centurion - the first being Khurram Khan, who hit an unbeaten 132 against Afghanistan in November.

"Anwar is down on his knees, to celebrate a great hundred, but that is not intelligent bowling by Kevin O'Brien - you've got to keep your head, and keep yourself focused on what you have to do. UAE have really taken the game to Ireland, and it will be a really interesting match in the second half, when the lights come on."

O'Brien just needs to get through the over here, Naveed rotates the strike and Anwar tickles a three off his legs, again using the huge Gabba outfield as best he can, so he'll keep the strike. That's 19 from O'Brien's over.

If this was an attempt at mind games from Anwar, he's certainly winning - as he picks up a two before guiding a three down through third man to become the first UAE player to score a World Cup hundred, sinking to his knees in triumph as he removes his helmet. Well done him.

Astonishing batting from Anwar - as O'Brien runs in, the right-hander skips over to take guard a foot outside off stump, as if he's daring O'Brien to bowl at the unguarded timbers. But he follows him outside off - and trying to swipe the ball to leg, it flies off an edge to third man for four. Then, twice, O'Brien sees Anwar move and aborts his run-up. The umpires confer. Finally O'Brien bowls, Anwar stands still and wallops him for four through mid-wicket!

  11. UAE 246-7published at 06:59 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

New batsman Mohammad Naveed whacks his first ball for four wide of mid-wicket. Anwar moves up to 87 - I wonder if he knows that's a traditionally unlucky number in Australia.

"People won't understand what a good catch that actually was. Ed Joyce had to move back, with the sun in his eyes, moving to his right and the true old pro of the team judged it to his perfection.

"But that was a wonderful innings by Javed - he laid the marker down of how the UAE were going to go. He set the tone in the powerplay, and took the game to Ireland."

Finally Ireland part this seventh-wicket pair - Javed hoists the ball towards deep mid-wicket and Ed Joyce, after all that work last over, runs round and takes a terrific catch as he sinks to his knees. Javed departs for an ODI career-best 42, and a good reward for Sorensen, who's been one of Ireland's better death bowlers.

"The previous best was 98 between Ramnaresh Sarwan & Ridley Jacobs for West Indies against New Zealand at Port Elizabeth in 2003."

Cusack off, Kevin O'Brien back on - and a wide brings up the century stand. It looks like O'Brien is trying to bowl as wide as he can get away with, but he's charged with a wide every time he strays outside the tramlines. Anwar responds by trying to walk outside off stump - and then has the gall to look at the umpire as if to say "isn't that a wide" when the ball only just missed the outside edge... It's an interesting line of attack, it just means a lot of work for Ed Joyce down at third man.

"Ireland seem to like chasing and often have done so in these major tournaments - it is a feature of William Porterfield's captaincy. The par score at this ground is around 270, and they feel the ball may skid on in the second innings."

Anwar, having scored 78 in total from his first six ODIs, has now beaten his highest score in each of his last three innings - hitting 51 against Afghanistan in December, 67 against Zimbabwe last week, and now he's up to 80 today after busily helping himself to ones and twos against Sorensen. Five off the over - five overs left.

Porterfield shuffles his field nearly every ball, that's better from Cusack and he will be relieved not to concede any more boundaries.
